Summary: The study explored the risk of cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular events in elderly patients at early stages of heart failure, finding that the risk of HFH, IHD, stroke and all-cause death increased with severity of HF stage. 10% of patients with undiagnosed HF stage C were admitted for HF within 3 years, but the risk of non-CV hospitalizations was greater compared to HFH.

Summary: The potential effects of physical frailty on the benefits of heart failure medications in elderly patients with reduced and mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFr/mrEF) are unclear. This study aims to determine the influence of physical frailty on the prognosis of heart failure medications in elderly patients with HFr/mrEF.

Summary: This study used a large administrative database from Liguria to investigate hospital readmissions in elderly patients with heart failure. It found that a quarter of patients contributed to more than half of the readmissions, with a negative impact on prognosis. The study also identified male gender, lower educational level, and higher comorbidity index as predictors of increased readmissions and mortality.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the risk of heart failure in elderly treated hypertensive patients with different types of hypertension. The results showed that patients with uncontrolled hypertension, nonresistant hypertension, and resistant hypertension had a significantly higher risk of developing heart failure compared to those with controlled hypertension.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of EHMRG score in predicting in-hospital death among elderly AHF patients. The results showed that EHMRG score was fairly accurate in the whole cohort, with better performance observed in the first seven days of hospitalization.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of using tolvaptan early after hospitalization in elderly patients with ADHF and the prognosis one year after hospitalization. Tolvaptan might be effective and safe in elderly patients with ADHF, and there was no difference in the incidence of MACCE within one year. All-cause mortality was significantly higher in the over-80 group.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic impact of chloride in very aged patients with acute heart failure (AHF) and the existence of different phenotypes of hypochloraemia with distinct clinical significance. The study found that the phenotype characterized by hypochloraemia and low estimated plasma volume status (ePVS) was associated with an increased risk of mortality, while the hypochloraemia with high ePVS had no prognostic significance.

Summary: The study finds no correlation between higher MRCI scores and rates of hospital readmission or mortality in elderly patients with HF, suggesting that MRCI may not be a significant predictor in this population.

Summary: The prevalence and prognostic value of heart failure stages among elderly hospitalized patients remains uncertain. Our study found that HF stage B was the most common in elderly inpatients, and NT-proBNP may aid in predicting MACE in stage B patients.

Summary: This study found that 23% of elderly patients with heart failure had cognitive frailty, which was associated with a 1.55-fold greater risk for combined events within 1 year compared with patients without cognitive frailty.

Summary: Using the GLIM criteria and GNRI, it was found that 42.4% and 46.5% of elderly patients with heart failure were malnourished, respectively. Malnutrition was associated with a higher mortality rate and showed independent prognostic value. The GLIM criteria showed significant improvement in prognostic predictive ability compared to GNRI.

Summary: This study investigated the efficacy of adding tolvaptan (TLV) in improving the prognosis of elderly patients with acute heart failure (AHF) and oliguria. The results showed that adding TLV significantly increased urine output, reduced NT-proBNP levels, alleviated the progression of AHF, and may reduce the risk of all-cause mortality at 7 and 90-day in elderly patients with AHF with oliguria.

Summary: The ability of heart failure patients to recognize their own comorbidities is low. Patients with less accurate recognition of their comorbidities may be at higher risk for all-cause mortality or heart failure rehospitalization.
