Summary: A good lifestyle is associated with a reduced risk of gastric cancer regardless of family history, while family history of early-onset cancer is closely related to the occurrence of gastric cancer. About 34% of gastric cancer cases can be attributed to non-compliance with three or more healthy lifestyle factors.

Summary: The study found that factors such as late menarche, long-term use of oral contraceptives, hormone contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy, nulliparity, parental consanguinity marriage, and positive family history were all significantly associated with increased risk of breast cancer among women in the West Bank of Palestine. This highlights the importance of rationalizing the use of reproductive hormones, both for birth control and therapeutic purposes, particularly in this region.

Summary: This study aimed to identify possible risk factors for childhood cancer in Armenia. The findings showed that maternal usage of folic acid during pregnancy was protective against childhood cancer, while experiencing horrifying events during pregnancy and having induced abortions before getting pregnant were associated with higher odds for a child to develop cancer.

Summary: Twin studies suggest a familial aggregation of bladder cancer, with individuals having a first-degree relative with bladder cancer having nearly double the risk of developing bladder cancer. Additionally, a family history of female genital cancer, melanoma, and tobacco-associated cancer also increased the risk of bladder cancer.

Summary: This study compares the association of predictive factors with incident cervical insufficiency (ICI) in nulliparous and parous women, and further investigates various aspects of obstetric history for multiparous women. The study finds that multifetal gestation and previous miscarriages are important risk factors for ICI in nulliparous women, while a history of preterm delivery is an independent predictor for parous women. Previous prolonged labor or delivery of a large infant are inversely associated with the risk of ICI in the current pregnancy.

Summary: Postoperative pneumonia is a serious complication that can lead to adverse outcomes. Our study identified six independent risk factors that can be used for risk stratification and management of postoperative pneumonia. Gram-negative pathogens are the most common causative agents, and multidrug resistant bacteria are prevalent.

Summary: The rising incidence rate of prostate cancer (PCa) worldwide is a concern. The association between human papillomavirus (HPV) and PCa has been widely investigated. This case-control study in Taiwan found a slightly significant association between HPV infection and PCa, but the focus should be on other risk factors such as dietary habits, personal lifestyle, and family history.

Summary: A matched hospital-based case-control study in Palestine indicated that factors such as consuming more fruits/vegetables, taking aspirin, and having multiple birth siblings lowered the risk of CRC, while consuming grilled red meat, smoking, parental consanguinity, and family history of cancer increased the likelihood of CRC. These results confirmed the association between CRC and red meat intake and smoking, and identified additional risk factors like parental consanguinity and family history of cancer.

Summary: Colorectal carcinoma (CRC) is the second most common cancer diagnosed in Algeria, with an increasing incidence and mortality rate. Factors such as high education level, family history of cancer, occupational exposures, obesity, alcohol consumption, and dietary factors were found to be associated with CRC risk in this study. Public health campaigns to raise awareness about CRC and promote healthy dietary choices may help in prevention.

Summary: This study identified factors that influence the secondary household transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from positive cohabitants. The findings suggest that recent SARS-CoV-2 infection, home isolation of positive cohabitants, and older age of primary index cases are associated with a reduced risk of secondary household transmission. Further research is needed to determine the effectiveness of booster vaccinations.

Summary: This study analyzed the relationship between cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, and head and neck cancer risk factors in less developed and more developed countries. The results showed that the duration of smoking and alcohol consumption had different effects on the risk of specific cancer sites depending on the country's level of development. These findings suggest that the degree of industrialization and economic development affects the relationship between smoking, alcohol, and head and neck cancer.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive assessment of infection-related cancers burden in Italy. It shows that 7.6% of cancer deaths and 6.9% of incident cases are attributable to infections, with higher proportions in men than women. Helicobacter pylori is the leading cause of infection-related cancer deaths, followed by hepatitis C virus, human immunodeficiency virus, and hepatitis B virus.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between the intake of specific fibers with prebiotic activity and laryngeal cancer risk. The results showed that the intake of kestose, raffinose, and stachyose was inversely associated with laryngeal cancer risk, while ITFs, nystose, and 1F-beta-fructofuranosylnystose were not associated with the risk. Current smokers and heavy drinkers with low intake of prebiotic fibers had a significantly higher risk of laryngeal cancer compared to never smokers and moderate drinkers with high intake of prebiotic fibers.

Summary: Many studies have been conducted on the relationship between non-sugar sweeteners (NSS) and cancer in the past five decades, but the issue still remains of interest. In this comprehensive review, both toxicological and epidemiological evidence on the possible link between NSS consumption and cancer risk were quantitatively evaluated. The majority of studies showed no associations between NSS consumption and cancer, and the risks found in a few studies were not confirmed by others. Based on the review of both experimental and epidemiological data, it can be concluded that there is no evidence of cancer risk associated with NSS consumption.
