Summary: Gut microbiota dysbiosis is a global problem caused by antibiotic overuse. This study found that lentinan, a compound found in mushrooms, has therapeutic effects on antibiotic-driven gut microbial dysbiosis in mice. Lentinan improved the diversity and abundance of the gut microbiota and increased the levels of beneficial bacteria while decreasing harmful bacteria. It also increased the concentrations of short-chain fatty acids and improved colon tissue morphology, reducing inflammation. This study provides a theoretical basis for improving the clinical treatment of broad-spectrum antibiotic side effects.

Summary: Environmental DNA (eDNA) techniques are cost-effective and non-invasive methods for monitoring endangered aquatic species. However, operational uncertainty can affect the reliability of results. In this study, the concordance between different approaches for eDNA detection of the endangered fish species Sichuan taimen was evaluated. The optimized eDNA analysis protocol and the potential use of a specific molecular marker were established for reliable identification of Sichuan taimen.

Summary: In this study, the researchers found that stable colonization of live A. muciniphila at lesion sites is essential for its anti-inflammatory function. They also developed a modified A. muciniphila that had enhanced inflammation targeting and intestinal colonization under an external magnetic field, leading to improved therapeutic efficacy against intestinal diseases. The findings further revealed that this modified A. muciniphila could drive M2 macrophage polarization by upregulating the protein level of IL-4 at inflammatory loci. These results demonstrate the importance of A. muciniphila in treating intestinal diseases.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether dietary fiber pectin can alleviate PM2.5-induced pulmonary inflammation and the potential mechanism. The results showed that supplementation with pectin relieved PM2.5-induced pulmonary inflammation by altering the composition of intestinal microbiota and increasing the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). This study provides a new insight into reducing the health risk associated with PM2.5 exposure.

Summary: In this study, a reusable biobased composite hydrogel was successfully synthesized and used for the removal of Tl(I) from aqueous solutions. The hydrogel exhibited high adsorption capacity and thermal stability, and the adsorption process was found to be thermodynamically spontaneous. The results demonstrated that the hydrogel can be reused multiple times without significant loss of its adsorption capacity.

Summary: The potential of multi-layer nanoemulsions for improving the cellular uptake, antioxidant activity, and in vitro bioaccessibility of alpha-tocopherol was examined. The results showed that the multi-layer nanoemulsions significantly enhanced the cellular uptake and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol compared to free coumarin 6. Furthermore, the use of chitosan and dextran sulfate as wall materials in the multi-layer nanoemulsions led to even higher cellular uptake, in vitro bioaccessibility, and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol.
