Summary: This study analyzed the incidence and risk factors of dementia in patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) and found that the risk of dementia is increased in AD patients. The effect of age and diabetes on the development of dementia in AD patients varies.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between severe hypoglycemia and dementia subtypes, as well as their combined effect on overall mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes. The results indicate that severe hypoglycemia is associated with dementia, particularly Alzheimer's disease, and the combination of severe hypoglycemia and dementia leads to higher overall mortality.

Summary: This study in Taiwan found an association between toxoplasmosis and the risk of dementia, with antibiotic treatment showing a reduced risk of dementia. Further research is needed to explore the underlying mechanisms of these associations.

Summary: The study found that bacterial pneumonia is associated with an increased risk of dementia. Different pathogens are associated with different risks of Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, and unspecified dementia. In addition, repeated hospitalization due to bacterial pneumonia is dose-dependently associated with the risks of dementia and vascular dementia.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the prevalence, clinical findings, and outcome of a syndrome called Intermediate Syndrome (IMS) in dogs. The results showed that 22% of dogs progressed from acute cholinergic crisis to IMS. The survival rate was 100%, but 27% of the dogs required mechanical ventilation following respiratory failure.

Summary: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is bidirectionally linked to other cardiometabolic disorders but its long-term risk for microvascular outcomes is unclear. This study used nationwide Swedish patient data to identify individuals with NAFLD and matched them with reference individuals. The study found that NAFLD is independently and positively associated with the development of microvascular diseases. Rating: 8/10.

Summary: Inhibition of cholinesterase (ChE) activity has been used as the main diagnostic method for organophosphate (OP) and carbamate pesticides poisoning. However, ChE activity may also be altered due to exposure to other toxicants and medical conditions. This systematic review identified additional biomarkers, such as beta-glucuronidase, neuropathy target esterase, and hematological indicators, that show high sensitivity and accuracy in the diagnosis of OP poisoning.

Summary: Ecotoxicological studies using single test populations may underestimate or overestimate the effects of pesticides on the survival of free-living parasite stages. Population-level variation in pesticide tolerance is commonly observed in host taxa, but few studies have assessed population-level differences in tolerance of parasites to different contaminants. Our study found that the effects of insecticides on survival varied significantly among parasite populations and that insecticide tolerance levels were not predictable from one parasite life stage to the next. In addition, insecticides had both expected and counterintuitive effects on non-target taxa.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the risk of glaucoma in patients with rosacea. It found that the incidence rate of glaucoma was higher in patients with rosacea compared to those without. There is a need for proper screening for glaucoma in rosacea patients younger than 50 years, females, and patients with hypertension to prevent vision loss.

Summary: This study found a possible link between glaucoma and dementia, with glaucoma patients having a higher risk of developing all-cause dementia compared to the control group. Specifically, primary open-angle glaucoma patients had an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. The risk of these diseases was higher within 2 years of the diagnosis of primary open-angle glaucoma.

Summary: A study evaluated the association between household carpet dust measurements of 20 insecticides and childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia risk. The most frequently detected insecticide active ingredients were permethrin, chlorpyrifos, diazinon, and carbaryl. However, no significant associations with leukemia risk were found among these insecticides.
