Underserved population acceptance of combination influenza-COVID-19 booster vaccines

Robert P. Lennon, Ray Block, Eric C. Schneider, Laurie Zephrin, Arnav Shah

Summary: Recent data suggests increasing hesitancy towards both COVID-19 and influenza vaccination. Among US adults, acceptance rates for a COVID-19 booster alone, an influenza vaccine alone, and a combination influenza-COVID-19 booster vaccine were 45%, 58%, and 50% respectively. Acceptance was lower among female, Black/African American, Native American/American Indian, and rural respondents, while higher acceptance was found among those with college and post-graduate degrees.

The distillation method: A novel approach for analyzing randomized trials when exposure to the intervention is diluted

John L. Adams, Anna C. Davis, Eric C. Schneider, Michaela M. Hull, Elizabeth A. McGlynn

Summary: This article introduces a novel analytical approach for underpowered randomized controlled trials, which addresses the issue of low participant enrollment or engagement. The Distillation Method increases the power of the trial by redefining the estimand to subpopulations with higher enrollment probabilities and stronger treatment effects, while maintaining the original randomization.
