Summary: Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is a polyunsaturated fatty acid that shows potential in controlling cellular antioxidant defenses through Nrf2 activation. Studies in cell cultures and animals indicate positive effects of DHA on cellular antioxidant enzymes. However, variations in experimental conditions might account for the observed differences among studies.

Summary: This systematic review identified differentially expressed microRNAs (miRs) in diseased pulpal and periapical tissues. The findings suggest that miRs may play a significant role in pulpal and periapical biology and could be utilized for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Summary: This article systematically reviews the sample size calculations and target differences in high-profile surgical RCTs that used a patient-reported outcome measure as the primary outcome. The results indicate that suboptimal methods are often used to determine the target difference, and the sample size calculations generally do not meet DELTA(2) standards, which may result in over-recruitment and erroneous trial conclusions.

Summary: This study evaluated microbial communities in root canals using Nanopore sequencing and analyzed their relationship with peri-radicular inflammatory diseases. The results showed the presence of various microorganisms in root canals, which were closely related to clinical and endodontic conditions. Future studies should further evaluate these conditions and identify their role in inducing bone damage and local systemic diseases to better understand the relationship between microbes and endodontic pathologies.

Summary: This systematic review aimed to examine the potential link between apical periodontitis and gastrointestinal diseases. The analysis of existing studies revealed a potential association between impaired endodontic status and gastrointestinal diseases, but the evidence is limited. More research is needed to confirm this association.

Summary: Temporal lobe epilepsy with enlargement of the amygdala is a distinct clinical entity with contrasting clinical features compared to TLE with hippocampal sclerosis. Patients with AE tend to have an older age of onset, less febrile seizures, and similar aura and automatism types as TLE with HS but with lower prevalence.

Summary: Apical surgery and non-surgical treatment or retreatment are both options for managing teeth with apical periodontitis, but it is unclear which option is more effective. This systematic review found that apical surgery showed better results in terms of periapical healing and reducing the need for further intervention, although tooth survival rate was higher in the non-surgical treatment group. However, due to the heterogeneity of the studies, meta-analysis was not possible, and further high-quality comparative trials are needed to draw statistically supported conclusions.

Summary: Microbial enzymes, particularly carbohydrases, have gained significant attention due to their stability and potential applications in areas such as bioenergy, biofuel production, and biobleaching. Isolating novel microbes from harsh environments has become a major focus for scientists. This review highlights the importance and properties of carbohydrases, specifically amylase, cellulase, laccase, pectinase, and xylanase, and explores their applications, production optimization, molecular approaches for enhanced production, and future biotechnological perspectives. Green and sustainable catalytic conversion strategies using enzyme nanoparticles are also discussed.

Summary: This literature review focuses on the immobilization of microbial lipases and their applications in the food industry. Different immobilization techniques and support types are discussed, along with various application areas such as synthesis of fatty acids, flavorings, and antioxidants, among others. The characteristics of enzyme/support systems and their properties are also analyzed, with consideration for the sensitivity and cost of the production process.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of foraminal enlargement on microcrack formation and apical transportation in root canals with apical curvature. Maxillary lateral incisors with apical curvature were divided into two groups, with one group undergoing foraminal enlargement. The results showed that foraminal enlargement led to the formation of new microcracks and increased apical transportation. Compared to root canal preparation up to 1 mm short of the apical foramen, foraminal enlargement using a heat-treated reciprocating file size 40 resulted in higher microcrack formation and apical transportation.

Summary: This systematic review discusses the importance of the microbiome in the proper function of the gastrointestinal tract and overall wellbeing. The findings suggest that gut ischemia can disrupt the intestinal mucosal barrier and lead to bacterial translocation. Factors such as reduced blood oxygenation can cause intraluminal harmful factors to escape into the systemic circulation and transmit to distant organs and tissues, particularly in preterm neonates.

Summary: This review discusses the current and emerging antiresorptive medications and their implications for dental surgeries. The risk factors for medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) should be evaluated before invasive dental procedures, including the type, dose and duration of medication, adjunctive medications or combination of antiresorptive agents, and comorbidities. Patients receiving antiresorptive therapy for malignancy are at a higher risk of developing MRONJ compared to those with osteoporosis, and antiangiogenic agents are commonly implicated. Close monitoring is recommended for patients taking multiple doses of angiogenic inhibitors to detect MRONJ early.

Summary: This narrative review combines the ideal properties of root canal sealers described by Grossman and the requirements of ISO and ANSI/ADA standards, focusing on tricalcium silicate cement sealers. The review finds that tricalcium silicate cement sealers meet many of the criteria for ideal properties, such as placement, antimicrobial properties, and bioactivity, but have limitations in solubility, dimensional stability, and retrievability.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the temporal evolution of external cervical resorption (ECR) defects using a volumetric quantification method. CBCT images of patients diagnosed with ECR who chose not to receive treatment and attended recalls were collected. The volume of resorption defects and the volumetric ratio of resorption defects/teeth increased over time, and there was a higher prevalence of root surface perforations >1 mm at recall compared with baseline.

Summary: A systematic review was conducted to examine the frequency of craniofacial fibrous dysplasia (FD) transforming into osteosarcoma (OS). The results showed a low frequency of transformation, with 1.67% of the patients in the study experiencing this transformation. The analysis also revealed that the majority of the cases were in females and developed from monostotic FD.
