Summary: Understanding the characteristics of nickel-titanium files is crucial for dentists due to their popularity in root canal therapy. The torque required to rotate the files is considered a parameter for stress generation, and understanding the conditions that may cause instrument fractures is important. The stress generated during root canal shaping can lead to microcracks in the instruments and dentinal wall, emphasizing the need to prevent fractures. Various experimental approaches have been used to measure this stress, and this review focuses on the stress generated under different experimental conditions and the factors related to torque generation.

Summary: The study aimed to measure the number of cycles leading to fracture (NCF) in stainless steel double-curved canals under static and dynamic cyclic fatigue situations at body temperature. Different groups of ProTaper Universal and ProTaper Next instruments were tested using proprietary programs and the rotations before fracture were recorded. The results showed that ProTaper Next had the highest NCF in dynamic cycles, while ProTaper Universal had the lowest NCF in static condition. The study suggests that factors such as rotation modes, materials, and design influence the cyclic fatigue resistance of the instruments.

Summary: In this study, we compared the mechanical properties of 2Shape mini TS2 instruments made from different sizes and thermally treated nickel-titanium wires. The results showed that files made from controlled memory wire had higher cyclic fatigue resistance regardless of the wire size, and testing at body temperature had a negative impact on the performance of all files. Additionally, the 1.0mm diameter T-wire instruments exhibited higher cyclic fatigue resistance compared to the 1.2mm diameter instruments.

Summary: The mechanical strength and flexibility of instruments are traditionally evaluated through various tests, including cyclic fatigue, torsional, bending, buckling, and microhardness tests. Cyclic fatigue testing, in particular, can provide valuable information on the factors that may affect fatigue strength outcomes. Despite their importance, these tests are associated with limitations such as artificiality, simplicity, inconsistency, and low external validity. Efforts have been made to improve the reliability of the outcomes by incorporating settings that mimic clinical conditions.

Summary: The aim of this study was to explain the mechanical differences between EdgeTaper Platinum (ETP) and ProTaper Gold (PTG) and the composition of their alloys. The results showed that ETP F2 had higher cyclic fatigue resistance and bending ability than PTG F2, while PTG had higher torsional resistance. DSC and EDX analysis also confirmed the differences between the two alloys.

Summary: This study evaluated the marginal gap between obturation materials and dentinal walls using scanning electron microscopy for four different endodontic sealers with the single-cone technique or thermomechanical compaction. The results showed no significant differences in marginal gap between the two obturation techniques for each sealer, except for the middle third of root canals for AHP, ES, and GF sealers. In conclusion, the thermomechanical compaction technique combined with hydraulic sealers and gutta-percha provides better sealing than the single-cone technique when the root canal shape is not rounded.

Summary: Root canal treatment (RCT) is effective in eliminating damaged pulpal tissue and protecting the tooth from reinfection. Post-endodontic pain (PEP) is a common complication of RCT and can impact patients' quality of life and perception of treatment options. This study assessed the impact of manual, rotary, and reciprocating file shaping procedures on immediate post-operative quality of life (POQoL) in single-visit RCT. The results showed that the type of file system or technique used did not significantly affect the assessed quality of life parameters.

Summary: The study investigated the pushout bond strength of root fillings at radicular dentin using NaOCl, CHX, and Arnica montana as an irrigant. The results showed that NaOCl significantly decreased the bond strength of AH Plus to dentin, while CHX and Arnica montana reversed the compromised bond strength. Final irrigation with CHX or Arnica montana reduced the risk of diminished binding capacity of AH Plus to root canal walls after using NaOCl as an irrigant.
