Summary: This pilot study aimed to assess prescriptions by general medical practitioners (GPs) for dental presentations in Australia. The results showed that only 23.6% of the prescriptions were considered appropriate according to the Australian national dental guidelines. This indicates a need to better understand the drivers for antibiotic prescription and provide resources for GPs to manage dental presentations. The results will inform targeted interventions to address educational gaps and barriers to accessing dental treatment, thereby improving antibiotic prescribing.

Summary: The study found that the COVID-19 pandemic had impacted antibiotic prescribing and antimicrobial stewardship in general practice in England, leading to lower thresholds for prescribing antibiotics and changes in consultation methods. Participants reported decreased engagement with AMS due to COVID-19-related urgent priorities. Re-engagement with AMS is needed to identify opportunities for future management of infections and AMS.

Summary: Through interviews with GPs and Endocrinologists in diverse areas of New South Wales, Australia, it was found that some GPs under-appreciated the cardio-renal benefits of SGLT2 inhibitors and preferred Endocrinologists to initiate therapy. GPs expressed a desire for education from Endocrinologists on this topic, while Endocrinologists indicated that interactive sessions were most useful to GPs.

Summary: This study aimed to describe a classification of collaboration between general dental practitioners and dental hygienists in oral health care practices in the Netherlands. The results highlighted leadership style and goals for collaboration as the most important factors influencing collaboration. Leadership style varied from very directive to very supportive, and seemed to be connected to the allocation of responsibilities. Goals for collaboration varied from predominantly patient-related to mostly practice-related.

Summary: The study found that general practitioners in Portugal exhibit higher levels of overall stigma towards people diagnosed with a mental disorder compared to psychiatrists, and score higher in dimensions of dangerousness, parental incompetence, diagnostic overshadowing, and responsibility. Several sociodemographic variables, including age, gender, having a friend with a mental disorder, professional category, agreement that Psychiatry diverges from core medicine, and physician's interest in mental health topics, were also associated with stigma.

Summary: The study aimed to analyze antibiotics prescription habits of Spanish general dental practitioners in the management of endodontic infections. The results showed some inappropriate practices, such as a high proportion of using amoxicillin as the first choice antibiotic and prescribing antibiotics in non-recommended situations. Improvement of antibiotic prescription guidelines for general dentists is necessary.

Summary: This study aimed to gain a better understanding of the antibiotic prescribing-use-dispensation dynamic in Malta from the perspective of GPs, pharmacists, and parents. The results showed that while there was generally high awareness of antibiotic overuse and ABR among the interviewees, issues such as antibiotic demand, non-compliance, and over-the-counter dispensing still existed. However, the interviewees believed that the public is more accepting of alternative strategies, such as delayed antibiotic prescription. Both GPs and pharmacists were enthusiastic about their roles as patient educators in raising knowledge and awareness in this context. Overall, there is room for improvement in antibiotic use in Malta.

Summary: The study reveals that one-third of the population in the UK seeks dental care only when experiencing acute dental pain or problems. Analysis of visit codes to general medical practices in Wales shows that dental attendance was low before 1987 but increased sharply after 2006, coinciding with changes in National Health Service policies. Repeat attenders were more likely to reside in urban or deprived areas.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence, preventability, and medication classes involved in drug-related hospital admissions (DRAs). The findings showed that DRAs are a significant cause of hospital admissions, with both prescribing and patient-related issues contributing to preventability. The most common medication classes associated with DRAs included antithrombotic agents, diuretics, and drugs used in diabetes. It is essential to balance the benefits and risks of medications in managing DRAs.

Summary: A study found that drug combinations potentially causing clinically significant DDIs are common among older patients admitted to the hospital, with medication affecting potassium concentrations being the most prevalent. Manifest DDIs were present in 4.3% of older patients admitted to the hospital, highlighting the importance of considering concomitant medications, doses, laboratory values, and comorbidities when using a computerized decision support system to alert potentially clinically significant DDIs in older patients.
