Summary: The study found that self-reported acute stress is associated with computer mouse movements, specifically in the form of a speed-accuracy trade-off. This suggests that regular analysis of computer mouse movements could indicate work stress.

Summary: The study found significant upper extremity biomechanical risks during colonoscopy, including high thumb pinch forces and prolonged forceful pinch times, with left wrist extensor muscle activity exceeding established thresholds. An endoscope support device was effective in reducing loads to the left wrist extensors.

Summary: The study examined the relationships between workplace risk factors and upper extremity injuries, finding strong associations between forceful exertions and hand/wrist tendon-related disorders, epicondylitis, and CTS. Laboratory studies revealed clear associations between task demands and biomechanical measures, providing evidence of dose-response relationships between risk factors and injury. Understanding these relationships can improve injury prevention and rehabilitation strategies.

Summary: Upper extremity venous thrombosis (UEVT) accounts for about 10% of venous thrombo-embolic disease, mainly due to central venous line usage. Factors associated with venous recanalization after UEVT include thrombosis associated with central venous catheter, UEVT limited to a venous segment, occlusive thrombosis, presence of a PICC Line, deep and distal thrombosis, and superficial thrombosis of the forearm. Occlusive thrombosis is associated with lack of UEVT recanalization.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the risk factors, mortality, and morbidity associated with upper extremity deep venous thrombosis (UEDVT) in trauma patients and the impact of pharmacological prophylaxis. The results showed that UEDVT is associated with higher mortality and the presence of upper extremity fractures, peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) lines, and traumatic brain injury (TBI) were identified as independent risk factors for UEDVT. Additionally, pharmacological prophylaxis reduced the risk of UEDVT.

Summary: The frequency and risk factors of long COVID in community-based individuals are unclear. A study analyzing data from 10 UK population-based studies and electronic health records found wide variation in the frequency of long COVID between studies, but identified some consistent risk factors.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed a large pediatric orthopaedics practice to assess the frequency and timing of upper extremity refracture, as well as the factors associated with refracture. The results showed that refracture occurred in 2% of patients, with a median time to refracture of around 6 months. The most strongly associated factors with refracture were midshaft fracture location, forearm fracture, and noncompliance with treatment recommendations.

This suggests that hand grip and shoulder strength could be useful outcome measurements for future interventions to improve strength and fatigue resistance in workers at risk for musculoskeletal disorders.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders in the neck and upper extremities of cosmetologists, and investigate the association with ergonomic risk factors and hairdressing work. The results showed a high prevalence of MSDs and high risk in work postures. It is necessary to take control measures promptly to adopt more suitable working posture and design workplaces ergonomically.

Despite the poor performance in knowledge acquisition, these results support the biennial nature of this safety course.

Summary: The study found that long-term, accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare and rehabilitation services are crucial for individuals with rugby-related spinal cord injuries in South Africa. However, barriers such as healthcare quality, availability of rehabilitation services, and affordability and accessibility of adequate transport continue to hinder lower socio-economic groups. Efforts should be made to create equitable access to healthcare and rehabilitation for persons with spinal cord injuries in South Africa.

Summary: The study found that shift workers are more likely to be obese and have diabetes compared to non-shift workers, with poor sleep quality mediating this relationship. Lower physical activity levels and poor diet were also shown to be mediators for the relationship between shift work and obesity. Targeting interventions towards improving sleep quality, physical activity, and diet specifically for shift workers could potentially reduce the negative health effects associated with shift work.

Summary: Trail running, characterized by large elevation gains and uneven surfaces, is associated with common injuries at the foot, knee, and lower leg, as well as illnesses related to the gastrointestinal and metabolic systems. Current literature focuses on race-related injuries and illnesses, with limited evidence on training-related issues. Future research is needed to improve the management of trail running injuries and illnesses.

The results showed that many factors associated with return to work for short-term disabled workers are also important for long-term partially disabled workers, and a substantial number of these factors can be effectively targeted using vocational rehabilitation interventions.

Summary: With an increasing number of informal caregivers combining caregiving with paid jobs, our study aims to develop a model that provides insights into the factors affecting the availability and provision of informal care by working caregivers of older adults, and to investigate the societal developments that will impact these factors in the future. According to experts, future informal care will be most affected by the increasing participation of women in the workforce.

Summary: Blue-collar workers generally have poorer health than white-collar workers, and existing health promotion programs are often not successful among them. This study evaluates the effect of a Citizen Science-based program on the lifestyle behaviors of construction workers, but no significant changes were found between the pre-program and post-program periods. Developing a more intensified program may be necessary to improve the lack of significant change.

Summary: This qualitative study explores the perceptions of concussion, concussion risks, and prevention among English blind 5-a-side footballers in order to improve para concussion care. The study found that blind footballers lacked understanding of their own concussion experiences and believed that the diagnosis and experience of a concussion differed for individuals without vision. The severity of perceived concussions and previous concussion experiences influenced their reporting behaviors. Factors such as spatial orientation and sleep, which are important for daily functioning, were affected by concussions but are not adequately addressed in current assessment tools or clinical guidance for sports-related concussions.
