Summary: This study aimed to improve the procedural skills of trainees specializing in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine through simulation-based training, but found that the skills decayed after 9-12 months. Reminder sessions may be beneficial for chest tube insertion and defibrillation, while pericardiocentesis may only need to be taught once. Trainees' observed skills were better than their self-assessment.

Summary: Teamwork is a critical success factor in patient treatment, with Collective Orientation (CO) being a measure of healthcare providers' willingness to work in a team. This study assessed the impact of simulator-based interprofessional training on patient fall scenarios on participants' CO, finding a significant increase across all professional groups. However, the subscale Dominance did not increase for student nurses. The perceived reality of the simulation did not correlate with the change in CO.

Summary: The study revealed the experiences of pediatric interns at Children's National Hospital in assessing medical students. Interns feel that they assess students in meaningful and unique ways, encounter various barriers and facilitators in the assessment process, exhibit different levels of comfort and motivation in assessing different areas of student work, and perceive their role in assessment as limited to formative rather than summative assessment.

Summary: Surgery is a highly competitive specialty with a wide range of subspecialties. Medical students often lack exposure to surgical education and rotations in their curriculum, necessitating proactive engagement in activities related to surgical care. Understanding surgical practice, reflecting on personal suitability for a career in surgery, and participating in extracurricular activities are essential for developing an interest in surgery and gaining a competitive edge as a medical student.

Summary: This study assessed the effectiveness of learning methods between modified and classic Peyton's Four-Step Approach in learning basic skills of mask ventilation and intubation during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that both methods were equally effective for students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, and provided equal levels of satisfaction and self-confidence.

Summary: Emergency medicine programs are training residents to perform clinical procedures with known risks in a mastery-based educational framework. However, there is currently no established framework for graduating medical students to demonstrate procedural competency prior to residency. This study describes the creation and implementation of a competency-based procedural curriculum for first-year EM residents using simulation. The results show that all incoming residents demonstrated procedural competence on five different procedures using this framework.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between self-reported empathy and breaking bad news communication skills performance in undergraduate medical students. The results showed a positive correlation between social skills and communication skills performance, as well as a weak positive association between standing in patient's shoes and performance. The study suggests that understanding the moderating role of personality can lead to more tailored training interventions and improved transfer of skills.

Summary: The study found that additional mastery level performances of USGPIV placement on a simulator following SBML training did not improve skill transfer for both USGPIV placement success and total checklist performance. However, after 6 months, participants who underwent 4 or 8 additional training sessions showed a retention rate of over 80%, while those in the control group fell below 50%.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the factors associated with subsequent atrial fibrillation (AF) diagnoses and other adverse outcomes in critical illness associated new onset AF (CI-NOAF) patients. The results showed that AF burden and left atrial size were independently associated with subsequent AF. It was also found that CI-NOAF is often under-recognized and subsequent AF diagnoses are common post-discharge.
