Summary: This study found that 2 passes of EUS-FNA had similar diagnostic yield compared to 3 passes for solid pancreatic masses, suggesting that there might be no significant incremental tissue yield when 3 passes are performed.

Summary: Endoscopic ultrasound tissue acquisition, through EUS-FNA and EUS-FNB, is commonly used for pancreatic mass lesions, subepithelial lesions, and lymph node biopsy. While both methods are safe and offer high diagnostic value, there are potential limitations with EUS-FNA related to cytological aspirations. Comparative trials between EUS-FNA and EUS-FNB for pancreatic mass lesions have shown conflicting results, with the need for further large-scale studies for other types of lesions.

Summary: Endoscopic ultrasound fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) cytology is useful in the differentiation of pancreatic cysts, with higher sensitivity when the solid component is targeted. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic value of contrast-enhanced guided EUS-FNA (CH-EUS-FNA) in enhanced mural nodules and discrimination between different cysts. Results showed that mucinous cysts had higher arterial enhancement on contrast-enhanced endoscopic ultrasound (CH-EUS), and CH-EUS-FNA identified mucinous cysts and malignancy with high sensitivity and specificity. A comprehensive assessment of solid components using contrast-enhanced endoscopic ultrasound is important for the identification of malignant cysts.

Summary: A systematic review and meta-analysis compared the diagnostic accuracy of EUS-guided FNA and FNB for pancreatic cancer. The meta-analysis showed that EUS-FNB had superior diagnostic accuracy compared to EUS-FNA for pancreatic cancer.

Summary: EUS-FNA is a first-line procedure for diagnosing pancreatic cancer with high accuracy and low complication rate, but its ability to diagnose small lesions is limited. The dilemma of using preoperative EUS-FNA for diagnosing resectable pancreatic body and tail cancer challenges gastroenterologists and requires careful consideration of the benefits and risks in each case.

Summary: The study assessed p40 expression in fine needle biopsy samples of PDAC and found it to be associated with squamous differentiation in PDAC. For inoperable patients, a p40 H-score > 30 may indicate a shorter survival time. Therefore, squamous differentiation could be a potential treatment target in PDAC.

Summary: This multicenter prospective study confirmed the high diagnostic accuracy of EUS-FNB using the 22-gauge Franseen needle for pancreatic solid lesions, with high per pass and overall diagnostic accuracy. Factors affecting diagnostic accuracy include tumor size, puncture method, and use of suction.

Summary: EUS-FNA is a commonly used biopsy technique for diagnosing pancreatic tumors due to its high sensitivity and specificity, but careful consideration should be given to its indications to avoid iatrogenic dissemination in patients with cancer in the pancreatic body or tail.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic value of Elastography endoscopic ultrasound fine-needle aspiration (E-EUS-FNA) compared to B-mode EUS-FNA in solid pancreatic masses. The results showed that E-EUS-FNA was not superior to B-mode EUS-FNA.

Summary: The role of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) in the diagnosis of suspicious esophageal strictures was evaluated. The study demonstrated that EUS-FNA is a useful tool for obtaining accurate tissue samples and diagnosing suspicious malignant esophageal strictures, especially in cases with negative biopsy results. No major complications were observed.

Summary: This study compared the diagnostic value and safety of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) and endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle biopsy (EUS-FNB) in sampling solid lesions, showing that FNB has better diagnostic accuracy and tissue core rates in solid gastrointestinal lesions, with fewer needle passes, but no difference in solid pancreatic disease.
