Summary: This study reviewed the scientific literature of 24 different complementary and alternative veterinary medicine (CAVM) therapies used in cats, dogs, and horses, and found that there is insufficient scientific documentation to draw clear conclusions about their clinical effect. The research assessed 42 eligible publications representing nine different CAVM therapies, with varying levels of bias and reported treatment effects. Further research is needed to better understand the efficacy of these CAVM therapies.

Summary: The study analyzed the effectiveness of complementary therapies among cancer patients, revealing that some therapies like auriculotherapy and acupuncture, laser moxibustion, hypnosis, Ayurveda, electroacupuncture, progressive muscle relaxation and guided imagery, yoga, phytotherapy, music therapy and traditional Chinese medicine are effective. However, electroacupuncture, laser moxibustion, and traditional Chinese medicine had adverse effects, and kinesiology was not effective.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the impact of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy on the quality of life and foot health of breast cancer patients and describe the main assessment strategies and complementary therapies. The study found that peripheral neuropathy has a negative impact on quality of life and recommends the use of complementary therapies, such as exercise, to improve foot health. It also highlights the need for further research to incorporate these therapies into evidence-based practice.

Summary: The purpose of this article is to provide a systematic overview of the advantages and disadvantages of bioenergy therapies for cancer treatment. The analysis of 21 studies shows that these therapies have short-term effects in improving anxiety, depression, and quality of life in cancer patients, but there is no significant long-term difference. The risk of side effects is relatively small.

Summary: The literature on the efficacy of complementary and integrative medicine (CIM) alongside radiotherapy is varied in outcomes and levels of evidence. This review identified 163 articles on CIM use during radiotherapy, with 41.7% considered high-quality trials. The most frequently identified therapies were biologically based therapies, mind-body therapies, and alternative medical systems. Among high-quality trials, 60% reported a favorable change with CIM, suggesting potential benefits in reducing radiotherapy-induced toxicities and improving quality of life. This review can help guide radiation oncologists in discussing CIM with their patients.

Summary: Liver directed therapies such as hepatic resection and RFA show promise in prolonging survival for well-selected patients with breast cancer liver metastasis. TACE and TARE are used for chemo-resistant, unresectable disease. Further studies with larger cohorts are needed to investigate the effectiveness of each modality.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the neoadjuvant anti-HER2 therapy with the best balance between efficacy and safety. The findings suggest that trastuzumab emtansine + pertuzumab + chemotherapy showed a high pathologic complete response with a low risk of adverse events, while the pertuzumab + trastuzumab + chemotherapy regimen had the highest disease-free survival. However, further trials are needed to confirm these findings, particularly for neoadjuvant regimens with trastuzumab emtansine.

Summary: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional and psychosomatic disease that reduces quality of life and increases the risk of mental disorders. The deregulation of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is a major cause of the disease. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of IBS therapy by measuring heart rate variability (HRV) before and after therapeutic interventions. The findings suggest that interventions such as ear acupressure, transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation, cognitive behavioral therapy with relaxation elements, and yoga can improve ANS efficiency and reduce IBS symptoms.

Summary: Pembrolizumab, a PD-1 inhibitor, shows good efficacy and safety in the treatment of triple-negative breast cancer, particularly in early-stage patients. It is as effective as single-agent chemotherapy in advanced-stage breast cancer with a better safety profile, and in combination with chemotherapy it improves progression-free survival in advanced TNBC.

Summary: Acupuncture, acupressure, and topical capsaicin have shown the most evidence for efficacy in treating uremic pruritus. Interventions like oral omega-3 fatty acid and zinc supplementation have mixed efficacy. Other therapies like evening primrose oil, turmeric, vitamin B3, vitamin D, and thermal therapy were found to be ineffective for UP treatment.

Summary: This study critically examined the role of zinc in cancer treatment, finding that zinc has a positive impact on mucositis after radiotherapy but not after chemotherapy. Zinc substitution may reduce taste loss, dry mouth, and oral pain, but does not significantly affect survival or quality of life. The risk of side effects from zinc is relatively small and it could be useful in preventing oral toxicities during irradiation.

Summary: This systematic review on case reports of acupuncture-related adverse events found that while the number of publications in this field has increased, the information provided is often insufficient. Many case reports lack the necessary details to assess causality and do not adhere to reporting guidelines. Summary: This review evaluates the effectiveness of acupuncture (AT) in children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The meta-analysis of 14 studies suggests that AT, as an add-on or standalone treatment, can improve behavior problems, learning problems, hyperactivity-impulsivity, and hyperactivity symptoms in ADHD patients. However, more studies with proper methodology are needed to validate the efficacy of AT interventions.
