Summary: The three Schiff base ligands derived from hesperetin and their copper complexes were studied and characterized by various spectroscopic methods. The genotoxic activity of the compounds was tested on cancer cell lines and normal cell lines. The results showed that the ligands acted as neutral tridentate ligands in the acetate complexes, and the copper complexes displayed lower genotoxicity compared to the ligands in HeLa cells. In Caco-2 cells, HHSB and HTSC induced the most DNA damage, while CuHHSB and CuHTSC induced the highest DNA damage in LLC-PK1 cells.

Summary: Many Schiff bases derived from 2-hydrazinobenzothiazole and isatin have been used to form [ML2]Cl2 type Co(II) complexes. Nitrogen from azomethine, oxygen from lactonyl, and nitrogen atoms of the thiazole ring contribute to coordinating the metallic ion. The complexes consist entirely of metal and have a geometrical octahedron structure, as confirmed by analytical, magnetic, and spectroscopic investigations.

Summary: In this study, a series of hexanuclear chloride and sulfate Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes were successfully synthesized from appropriate metal salts and octadecaaza macrocyclic ligands. The obtained coordination compounds were characterized using various methods, including elemental analysis, spectroscopic methods, magnetic measurements, and X-ray crystallography. The X-ray crystal structures revealed different coordination modes of the metal cations in the obtained coordination compounds. The folding conformation of the macrocyclic ligand depended on the number of metal cations bound within the macrocycle. All Ni(II) and Cu(II) coordination compounds exhibited paramagnetic behavior. The magnetic measurements showed that the magnetic behavior of certain complexes was dominated by the magnetic anisotropy of the metal ion, while others revealed small antiferromagnetic interactions within the metal units. The EPR experiments indicated that the predominant contribution to the orbitals occupied by the unpaired electrons in the ground state originated from d(x2-y2) orbitals.

Summary: The synthesis of four new chiral coordination polymers using a chiral building block resulted in noncentrosymmetric crystal structures and 1D geometries, demonstrating the transfer of valine's chirality to the coordination polymers and the molecular compounds. Magnetic measurements and theoretical calculations indicated a unique ferromagnetic chain behavior in the Cu(II) spin carriers, while circular dichroism characterization showed the intrinsic chiral activity extending to the Cu(II) centers. Crystal engineering tools were successfully used to analyze the chemical and physical properties of this family of chiral coordination compounds through various experimental and theoretical approaches.

Summary: The reaction of en-P-2 with Cu(ClO4)(2) or CuClO4 leads to the formation of two complexes, [Cu-II-en-P-2(NCMe)](ClO4)(2) 1 and [Cu-I-en-P-2]ClO4 2, which exhibit different coordination numbers for the copper atom. The addition of Cu2+ or Cu+ affects the photoluminescence behavior of en-P-2, with a decrease in peak intensities observed at 420 and 560 nm. Furthermore, both copper complexes 1 and 2 show electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution, with complex 1 demonstrating more efficient activity than complex 2.

Summary: This work presents studies on the photochemical transformations of TU and Cys with the addition of Cu(II) or Fe(III) ions. The results show that the oxidation rate of the thiols increases significantly when Cu(II) or Fe(III) ions are added to the system. It has also been found that TU and Cys can form stable complex compounds with the studied metal ions. The oxidation rates of the thiols are found to depend on the radiation intensity and emission spectrum of the irradiation sources.

Summary: The structure and electrochemical properties of zinc(II) complexes with a face-capping ligand have been investigated, revealing the effect of the ligand on bound semiquinonate (SQ) radicals. The substitution pattern of the SQ ring plays a crucial role in determining the fate of the bound SQ radicals. Additionally, the protective pocket formed by the ligand's phenyl substituents is unable to prevent decomposition of SQ radicals with minimal steric bulk, suggesting that substitution of the SQ ring is the main contributor to their stabilization.

Summary: In this article, the synthesis and characterization of copper, nickel, and palladium complexes bound by bidentate ligands derived from ortho-phenylenediamine are described. The complexes contain tunable H-bond donors and their crystal structures reveal intramolecular H-bonding interactions between the ligand scaffolds. Variations in the coordination sphere led to the isolation of the complexes in square-planar or twisted pseudo-tetrahedral geometries. Structural analysis showed that intramolecular H-bonding interactions can be altered by disrupting the bonds between countercations, solvent of crystallization, and ligand scaffold, resulting in changes in the geometry of the complexes. DFT calculations confirmed that Cu complexes prefer twisted geometries while Ni and Pd complexes favor square-planar geometries.
