Summary: The supramolecular chemistry of chalcogenadiazoles is widely used in materials chemistry and is gaining increasing attention. This study presents a facile method for the synthesis of a range of 1,2,4-selenadiazoles using the coupling reaction of 2-pyridylselenenyl halides with unactivated nitriles. These compounds act as novel supramolecular building blocks, engaging in various chalcogen bonding interactions. The research also discovers adducts derived from alpha-halogenated nitriles, which form stable dimers featuring specific 2Se-2N square, Hal· · ·Hal, and Se· · ·Hal noncovalent interactions.

Summary: Despite extensive studies on the reaction of Pd intermediates in the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction (SMR), direct evidence supporting the widely accepted assumptions regarding the activity of Pd hydroxo complexes is lacking. This study presents results on the reactivity of Pd-OH and/or Pd-OR-containing complexes in the transmetalation step under ligand-free turnover conditions. The catalytic involvement of specific Pd species was determined under real catalytic conditions by measuring the selectivity of competing reactions.

Summary: In this study, a series of discrete palladium complexes bearing acetanilide ligands were developed, which showed a good balance between reactivity and stability in living cells. The catalytic activity and cytotoxicity of these complexes were investigated in SiHa cells, and acetanilide[tri(2-furyl)phosphine]palladium(II) triflate showed promising results. Under physiological conditions, this palladium complex exhibited a second-order reaction rate of 30 M -1 s -1, and LC-MS studies suggested a potential tandem Heck/Tsuji-Trost mechanism. Our results demonstrate the potential of using these discrete palladium complexes for bioorthogonal chemistry studies in living cells.

A smaller fraction of [UO2Cl2(H2O)(3)] ion is also observed in the solution. The data reveal that the uranyl ion is a poor hydrogen bond acceptor in solution, while the coordinated waters exhibit enhanced hydrogen bond ability compared to bulk water.

Summary: Microwave (MW) and enzyme catalysis are two emerging processing tools in the food industry. MW has been widely used as a green and safe heating energy, but its effect on enzyme activity is not well understood. To apply MW to enzyme catalysis, it is important to understand its mechanism on enzyme activity. This review summarizes the changes in enzyme activity during food processing, especially under MW irradiation, and analyzes the thermal and nonthermal effects of MW from the perspective of enzyme reaction kinetics and spatial structure.

Summary: Ligusticum chuanxiong caffeic acid O-methyltransferase (LcCOMT) exhibits strict regiospecificity with a preference for methyl caffeate over caffeic acid due to its low Km and high Kcat. The crystal structures of SAM binary and SAH binary complex, as well as the ternary complex with methyl caffeate, were obtained in this study. The active site of LcCOMT includes phenolic substrate pocket, SAM/SAH ligand pocket, and conserved catalytic residues. The relative preference of LcCOMT is governed by the interactions between the propanoid tail and phenyl ring, with the propanoid tail stabilizing the anionic intermediate in methyl caffeate.

The substitution pattern of the SQ ring plays a crucial role in determining the fate of the bound SQ radicals. Additionally, the protective pocket formed by the ligand's phenyl substituents is unable to prevent decomposition of SQ radicals with minimal steric bulk, suggesting that substitution of the SQ ring is the main contributor to their stabilization.

Summary: In this article, the synthesis and characterization of copper, nickel, and palladium complexes bound by bidentate ligands derived from ortho-phenylenediamine are described. The complexes contain tunable H-bond donors and their crystal structures reveal intramolecular H-bonding interactions between the ligand scaffolds. Variations in the coordination sphere led to the isolation of the complexes in square-planar or twisted pseudo-tetrahedral geometries. Structural analysis showed that intramolecular H-bonding interactions can be altered by disrupting the bonds between countercations, solvent of crystallization, and ligand scaffold, resulting in changes in the geometry of the complexes. DFT calculations confirmed that Cu complexes prefer twisted geometries while Ni and Pd complexes favor square-planar geometries.
