A study of the reaction kinetics between the trinuclear palladium(II) acetate Pd-3(mu-OOCMe)(6) (1) and the mononuclear 3d-metal (Ni-II, Co-II, Cu-II) acetates in acetic acid under water-specified conditions revealed a fairly complicated reaction mechanism triggered by the primary hydrolytic cleavage of an acetate bridge in molecule 1. The isolated reaction products, as established by X-ray diffraction study, are 1D polymeric complexes {Pd(mu-OOCMe)(4)M(OH2)(HOOCMe)(2)}(n) (M = Ni-II, Co-II, Cu-II, Mn-II, Zn-II) built of the Pd-II-based paddlewheel units [Pd(mu-OOCMe)(4)M] and linked trough the H- bonded H2O and MeCOOH molecules. Summary: The first aerogel-based single-ion magnets were synthesized by immobilizing cobalt(II) ions in a silica aerogel matrix. The lyogels were synthesized by co-hydrolyzing methyl-trimethoxysilane and N-3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl ethylenediamine, and then the cobalt(II) ions were bound to the silica matrix through the immobilized ethylenediamine groups. The cobalt(II)-modified silica aerogels exhibited slow magnetic relaxation in a nonzero field.

Olga Khromova, Mikhail A. Emelyanov, Nadezhda Stoletova, Ekaterina E. Bodunova, Darya O. Prima, Alexander F. Smol'yakov, Igor L. Eremenko, Victor I. Maleev, Vladimir A. Larionov

Summary: A family of well-defined lambda- and delta-configured octahedral cationic chiral-at-cobalt catalysts were expanded through postcomplexation of bromine-functionalized Co(III) complexes. This is the first example of direct modification of the ligand sphere of chiral Co(III) catalysts through Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction. The chiral metal center is observed to be epimerized during the cross-coupling process.

Summary: Mononuclear complexes [Cu(L)(2)(phpy)(2)(H2O)]center dot solv (L = fur (1), nfur (2); solv = phpy (1)) were formed by the reaction of copper(II) acetate with 3-furancarboxylic acid (Hfur) and 5-nitro-2-furancarboxylic acid (Hnfur) in acetonitrile with the participation of 4-phenylpyridine (phpy), and their structures were determined by X-ray analysis. It was found that copper nanoparticles immobilized on gamma-Al2O3 showed high selectivity in the monohydrogenation reaction of DCPD to DHDCPD. Catalytic activity tests demonstrated high selectivity of the catalysts, even at high conversion values and in the presence of excess hydrogen. The thermal behavior of the complexes was analyzed using simultaneous thermal analysis (STA).

Angela Lis, Viorica Gladchi, Gheorghe Duca, Sergey Travin

Summary: This work presents studies on the photochemical transformations of TU and Cys with the addition of Cu(II) or Fe(III) ions. Summary: The structure and electrochemical properties of zinc(II) complexes with a face-capping ligand have been investigated, revealing the effect of the ligand on bound semiquinonate (SQ) radicals. The substitution pattern of the SQ ring plays a crucial role in determining the fate of the bound SQ radicals. Additionally, the protective pocket formed by the ligand's phenyl substituents is unable to prevent decomposition of SQ radicals with minimal steric bulk, suggesting that substitution of the SQ ring is the main contributor to their stabilization.

Geometric control of Cu, Ni and Pd complexes in the solid state via intramolecular H-bonding interactions

Ankita Puri, Allison Mcaninch, Sheng Shu, Khashayar Rajabimoghadam, Maxime A. Siegler, Marcel Swart, Isaac Garcia-Bosch

Summary: In this article, the synthesis and characterization of copper, nickel, and palladium complexes bound by bidentate ligands derived from ortho-phenylenediamine are described. The complexes contain tunable H-bond donors and their crystal structures reveal intramolecular H-bonding interactions between the ligand scaffolds. Variations in the coordination sphere led to the isolation of the complexes in square-planar or twisted pseudo-tetrahedral geometries. Structural analysis showed that intramolecular H-bonding interactions can be altered by disrupting the bonds between countercations, solvent of crystallization, and ligand scaffold, resulting in changes in the geometry of the complexes. DFT calculations confirmed that Cu complexes prefer twisted geometries while Ni and Pd complexes favor square-planar geometries.
