Summary: Inorganic sulfates crystallizing in acentric structures are essential for exhibiting nonlinear optical (NLO) response, but the process is challenging. This study synthesized a new acentric sulfate, Cs2Zn2(SO4)(3), showing a moderate second-order NLO response. The research enriches the diversity of sulfate structures and provides a new design strategy for the synthesis of novel NLO sulfates.

Summary: The symmetry of crystals is an important property, and they can be categorized into centrosymmetric and non-centrosymmetric crystals. This paper introduces the synthesis and property analysis of a new infrared nonlinear optical material, AgGaGeSe4, which shows better optical properties compared to AgGaSe2 and can be used as a good infrared NLO material.

Summary: A quaternary metal chalcogenide, K2CdGe3S8 (I), was synthesized through high-temperature solid-state approach. Compound I possesses a 2D layer structure with tetrahedral GeS4 and CdS4 units forming [CdGe3S8] layers, with K+ ions embedded in between. It shows a powder second-harmonic generation (SHG) response similar to 0.1 times that of KH2PO4 (KDP) at the laser wavelength of 1064 nm, indicating phase-matchable character. It has a wide band gap (3.20 eV), corresponding to a high laser-induced damage threshold 6.7 times that of AgGaS2, and a calculated birefringence (Delta n) of 0.039 at 1064 nm, meeting the criteria for a potential infrared NLO material.

Summary: KNO3SO3NH3 is a new polar non-centrosymmetric compound with a strong second-harmonic generation (SHG) response and large birefringence. The enhanced SHG response is attributed to the effect of hydrogen bond according to theoretical calculations. It also has the shortest absorption edge in the UV-visible spectrum among known materials with strong SHG responses.

Summary: The spontaneous crystallization method was used to synthesize two non-centrosymmetric scandium borate crystal materials with wide band gaps and good second harmonic generation (SHG) effects. First-principles calculations revealed that the arrangement of [B5O10](5-) groups and the distortion of ScO6 polyhedra were responsible for the SHG response. The materials may have potential applications in UV nonlinear optical devices.
