A new helical dimeric copper(I) complex [Cu-2(mphenpr)(2)](ClO4)(2) where mphenpr is 1,3-bis(9-methyl-1,10-phenanthrolin-2-yl)propane has been prepared and characterized by X-ray crystallography and NMR In the solid state, the metal centers are 6.42 angstrom apart, and the electronic structure has been investigated with use of density functional theory (OFT) calculations. In solution the dimer equilibrates with a monomeric form [Cu(mphenpr)](ClO4), and the mechanism of unfolding of the dimer into monomer has been studied In the presence of CCl4, formation of the monomer is coupled to the reductive dehalogenation of the halocarbon. The mechanism of this process has been probed by the study of short-lived potential reaction intermediates using fast kinetic pulse radiolysis techniques and comparisons with DFT calculations The copper(II) product [Cu(mphenpr)CI](ClO4) and an analogue [Cu(mphenpr)](ClO4)(2) have been isolated and characterized by X-ray crystallography.

Nuclearity Control for Efficient Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence in a CuI Complex and its Halogen-Bridged Dimer

Summary: This study reports on the thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) properties of a novel iodine-bridged Cu-I dimeric complex and its structurally related monomer. Efficient room-temperature TADF was observed in both compounds, with similar singlet-triplet splittings but longer triplet lifetime in the dimer. Key structural factors determining TADF properties, such as the role of iodine in spin-orbit coupling mixing and near degeneracies in donor and acceptor orbitals, were identified through computational calculations.

Summary: Copper complexes show promising potential as anticancer agents due to their ability to generate reactive oxygen species in cellular environments. Two novel copper(I) complexes were synthesized and characterized, with the binuclear helicate showing higher activity and cytotoxicity against cancer cell lines compared to the mononuclear complex and cisplatin. The DNA cleavage mechanism involves the generation of hydroxyl radical in a Fenton-like reaction.

Antiproliferative activity of two copper (II) complexes on colorectal cancer cell models: Impact on ROS production, apoptosis induction and NF-κB inhibition

Summary: The main goal of this study was to investigate the antiproliferative activity and mechanism of actions of two copper complexes on colorectal cancer cells. The results showed that one of the complexes (1) exhibited stronger antiproliferative activity compared to the other complex (2) and cisplatin. This effect was possibly due to the production of ROS and depolarization of the mitochondrial membrane induced by complex 1. Furthermore, both complexes inhibited apoptosis at low micromolar concentrations and suppressed the NF-kappa B pathway, resulting in the inactivation of MMP-9 expression.

Cyrhetrenyl and cymantrenyl N-acylhydrazone complexes based on isoniazid: Synthesis, characterization, X-ray crystal structures and antitubercular activity evaluation

Summary: Four organometallic N-acylhydrazones were synthesized and characterized. The replacement of a hydrogen atom by a methyl group on the acylhydrazone moiety significantly enhanced the antitubercular properties. Among them, the cyrhetrenyl derivative 5b exhibited the strongest antitubercular activity and has potential as a novel antitubercular agent.

The compound's structure and properties were extensively characterized, and its reactivity value was found to be higher compared to similar derivatives through calculations.

Summary: Tetraazamacrocycles are cyclic molecules with four nitrogen atoms known for producing highly stable transition metal complexes. Cross-bridging these molecules with two-carbon chains further enhances the stability of these complexes, making them suitable for various applications. In this study, unbridged dibenzyl tetraazamacrocycle complexes were synthesized to directly compare their stability with known cross-bridged tetraazamacrocycles. UV-Visible spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry were used for chemical characterization, revealing differences in electronic properties between the bridged and unbridged versions. Results showed that the stability of cyclen-based complex did not benefit from cross-bridging, while cyclam-based complexes greatly benefited. It was concluded that ligand-metal complementarity is crucial for the contribution of topological and rigidity constraints to complex robustness.

Effect of non-covalent self-dimerization on the spectroscopic and electrochemical properties of mixed Cu(i) complexes

Summary: In this study, a series of six new Cu(i) complexes were synthesized and their self-association effects on structural and electrochemical properties were investigated. The results showed that these complexes formed dimers through supramolecular pi stacking and hydrogen bonding. H-1-NMR experiments revealed a monomer-dimer equilibrium in solution, with dimers having similar structures to those in the crystal. Thermodynamic parameters were calculated to understand the self-association process. Electrochemical analysis indicated that the monomer and dimer species were in chemical equilibrium. The study emphasized the importance of non-covalent intermolecular interactions in the structuring and stability of Cu(i) complexes.

Synergy of DNA intercalation and catalytic activity of a copper complex towards improved polymerase inhibition and cancer cell cytotoxicity

Summary: Enhancing the cytotoxicity of metal complexes to cancer cells by fine-tuning structural and chemical properties is crucial. Copper complexes with intercalating ligands, such as [Cu(2CP-Bz-SMe)](2+), have shown superior DNA binding ability and efficient ROS generation for effective degradation of DNA. The synergistic effect of ROS generation and DNA intercalation contributes to the low IC50 values against various cancer cell lines, indicating a promising strategy for improved chemotherapy.

Structure and excited-state dynamics of dimeric copper(i) photosensitizers investigated by time-resolved X-ray and optical transient absorption spectroscopy

Summary: Time-resolved X-ray and optical transient absorption spectroscopy were combined with DFT and XANES calculations to study the photoexcitation dynamics of three homoleptic Cu(i) dimeric chromophores. Results showed distinct excited state lifetimes for different complexes, which were attributed to solvent effects and ligand flexibility upon copper flattening. These findings are important for understanding the structural dynamics of Cu-based compounds and their potential integration into solar energy conversion systems.
