Summary: The American Academy of Pediatrics National Registry for the Surveillance and Epidemiology of Perinatal coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) (NPC-19) was developed to provide information on the effects of perinatal severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. The study found that early in the pandemic, newborns acquired SARS-CoV-2 infection at variable rates and without apparent short-term effects. Additionally, higher than expected numbers of preterm births and maternal in-hospital deaths were observed.

Summary: In this study, the hospital registration of retinal artery occlusions in the Danish National Patient Registry was validated. Medical records of patients with retinal artery occlusion from 2017 to 2019 were assessed to determine the validity of the diagnoses. The overall positive prediction value for the diagnosis of retinal artery occlusion was 79.4%.

Summary: Roads form vast networks on Earth, causing negative environmental impacts that extend beyond the 'road-effect zone'. Research shows that road pollution covers over 70% of land area, with almost no land escaping any impact, resulting in ubiquitously elevated pollution levels.

Summary: In Sweden, the type of hospital does not influence risk-adjusted traffic-related mortality, where the most severely injured patients are transported to university hospitals and centralization of treatment is common. There was no significant difference in mortality between university hospitals and regional/county hospitals when adjusted for risk factors.

Summary: This study reveals significant racial and rural-urban disparities in stroke outcomes. Black patients from rural areas have poorer access to advanced stroke care and experience impaired poststroke functional status. Rural White patients have the highest in-hospital mortality rates.

Summary: The study aimed to validate all first-time diagnoses of Darier's disease in the Danish National Patient Registry, showing that diagnoses from dermatology departments had relatively high positive predictive values. The study also found that the PPV for ICD-8 diagnoses was slightly higher than that of ICD-10 diagnoses.

Summary: The study analyzed data from a national drug allergy registry over a 12-year period, focusing on common drugs associated with clinical reactions, diagnostic methods used, and outcomes of allergic evaluations. Results showed that anti-inflammatory drugs, analgesics, and antibiotics, particularly beta-lactam antibiotics, were the major contributors to confirmed drug allergies. Skin tests and drug provocation tests were key diagnostic methods, with respiratory symptoms and urticaria being the most common presenting symptoms among patients with confirmed hypersensitivity reactions.

Summary: In this study, we evaluated the use of angioembolization (AE) and surgical repair (SR) for high-grade renal trauma (HGRT) management. Our findings suggest that AE achieved better kidney salvage compared to SR in this observational cohort. These results have implications for clinical practice and future research.

Summary: The Danish Cardiac Arrest Registry aims to monitor and evaluate the quality of prehospital cardiac arrest treatment and facilitate research. It records descriptive and qualitative variables related to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and provides important data for assessing treatment protocols and patient outcomes. The registry is one of the oldest and most comprehensive national clinical registries in Denmark, playing a crucial role in improving the care for patients suffering from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

Summary: The study found that there is a lack of clarity in the relationship between symptoms and in-hospital mortality in low-resource medical settings, but vital signs, mobility, mental alertness, and mid-upper arm circumference are closely associated with in-hospital mortality. Tuberculosis and cancer were the only diagnoses significantly associated with in-hospital mortality.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether sequential therapy by rehabilitation could reduce the in-hospital mortality of patients treated with reperfusion therapy. The study found that among patients with ischemic stroke treated with intravenous thrombolysis or endovascular therapy, sequential therapy by rehabilitation was associated with lower all-cause in-hospital mortality.

Summary: This study presents a novel approach to develop an ecosystem extent account at the national scale, providing reliable information on the spatial and statistical changes of 26 ecosystems in Spain between 1970 and 2015. The results show an increase in forest ecosystems, a decrease in agroecosystems (especially annual croplands), and significant development of urban areas. This method is crucial for understanding ecosystem dynamics and their implications for the environment and services.

Summary: An admission warning strategy was developed and validated to predict the hospital discharge outcome of Chinese patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The strategy includes baseline characteristics, imaging, and laboratory indicators and demonstrated good calibration and discrimination. This strategy showed a significant prognostic capacity compared to traditional single predictors.

Summary: Men with castration resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) on GnRH plus androgen receptor targeted (ART) drugs such as abiraterone or enzalutamide have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), especially those with a recent history of CVD. It is recommended to closely monitor the cardiovascular health of these patients.

Summary: This study developed a method to predict life expectancy at a population level based on factors such as age, Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), and Drug Comorbidity Index (DCI). Simulations were used to estimate life expectancy by considering potential future changes in CCI and DCI. The results showed good agreement between observed and simulated survival curves, with a decrease in life expectancy with increasing age and comorbidity.

Summary: The study found that men with prostate cancer treated with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) had a higher risk of death from COVID-19, but this association was substantially attenuated after adjustment. The increased mortality from COVID-19 in these patients was mainly related to factors such as older age, comorbidity, and advanced prostate cancer, and there was no evidence to support the hypothesis that ADT is associated with improved COVID-19 outcomes.

Summary: This study used a bi-directional two-sample Mendelian randomization design to examine the relationships between ADHD, socioeconomic status, and intelligence. The results suggest that ADHD diagnosis could be a direct consequence of socioeconomic factors, independent of intelligence, while ADHD may lead to modestly lower socioeconomic status. Low intelligence does not seem to be a major independent cause or consequence of ADHD.

Summary: This study analyzed data from the Prostate Cancer data Base Sweden (PCBaSe) and found that men undergoing androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) had increased risks of testing positive for COVID-19 infection and subsequent hospital admission/death. However, after adjusting for age, comorbidity, and prostate cancer risk category, these associations were attenuated. The findings suggest that the increased risks may be attributed to confounding factors such as old age, cancer-associated morbidity, and other comorbidities rather than a direct effect of the therapy.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of missing data on the M stage in a clinical cancer register on estimates of incidence of metastatic prostate cancer. The results showed a high proportion of missing M stage, with varying incidence estimates depending on the imputation method used. It was concluded that a combination of deterministic imputation and multiple imputation can provide plausible estimates of metastatic prostate cancer incidence.

Summary: This study aimed to optimize the prediction of long-term all-cause mortality of intensive care unit (ICU) patients using quantitative register-based comorbidity information. The results showed that baseline comorbidity measures, including the time interval from the most recent hospital stay, significantly improved the prediction of mortality after ICU admission compared to the Charlson index and the SAPS score.
