Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to investigate the innovative characteristics, benefits, and barriers influencing internet-based information and communications technology (ICT) adoption among the small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Design/methodology/approach - A questionnaire-based survey was used to collect data from 406 managers or owners of SMEs in the southern region of Malaysia. Findings - The results suggest that internet-based ICT adoption provides a low cost yet effective communication tool for customers. However, security continues to be a major barrier. Finding on cost as a barrier is mixed. The inferential statistics reveal that relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, observability, and security are significant factors influencing internet-based ICT adoption. Research limitations/implications - The study focuses only on the SMEs in the southern region of Malaysia. Practical implications - The findings offer valuable insights to policy makers in general and to the SMEs in particular on the significance of the measured characteristics and the associated benefits and barriers of internet-based ICT adoption. Originality/value - The study is perhaps one of the first to comprehensively address internet-based ICT adoption among the SMEs through the use of a wide range of variables.

Numerical study of the coupled KGS equations using parametric spline function

Bin Lin

Summary: This study introduces a numerical method using parametric spline function to solve the coupled KGS equations. The fourth-order accuracy scheme can be achieved by selecting appropriate parameters, with no restrictions on time step rationing. The validity and accuracy of the method are demonstrated through numerical examples and simulations.

The cognitive-affective nexus on mobile payment continuance intention during the COVID-19 pandemic

Xiu-Ming Loh, Voon-Hsien Lee, Teck-Soon Hew, Binshan Lin

Summary: This study investigates the factors influencing the continuance intention to use mobile payment during a pandemic. The cognitive-affective-conative framework is used as the theoretical base, with a focus on the dynamic interrelationships between the cognitive and affective constructs. The findings show that both positive and negative affective constructs significantly influence continuance intention and can mediate the cognitive variables. Price savings and referent network size are identified as sources of technostress.

Exploring a high-carrier-mobility black phosphorus/MoSe2 heterostructure for high-efficiency thin film solar cells

Guoqing Wang, Zongmei Guo, Chen Chen, Weili Yu, Bo Xu, Bin Lin

Summary: In this study, a new type of BP/MoSe2 heterostructure thin film solar cell is proposed, which shows enhanced photoelectric characteristics and higher power conversion efficiency compared to BP/MoS2 heterostructure. The built-in electric field at the interface of BP/MoSe2 heterostructure accelerates the separation of electron-hole pairs. This research provides a feasible strategy for developing high-efficiency thin film solar cells.

Microbial succession and its effect on key aroma components during light-aroma-type Xiaoqu Baijiu brewing process

Bin Lin, Jie Tang, Qiang Yang, Zhixin Su, Liping Zhu, Qun Li, Wei Jiang, Long Zhang, Yuancai Liu, Shenxi Chen

Summary: The microbial composition and dynamics during the production of light-aroma-type Xiaoqu Baijiu were investigated in this study. The core microbes involved in the production of Xiaoqu Baijiu were identified as Rhizopus, Pichia, Wickerhamomyces, Saccharomyces, Acinetobacter, Lactobacillus, and Weissella. The microbial succession during brewing could be divided into two phases, with Rhizopus and Acinetobacter dominating the early stages and Pichia, Wickerhamomyces, Saccharomyces, and Lactobacillus increasing in abundance during the later stages. The water, amino acid nitrogen, acid, and reducing sugar contents were significantly correlated with the fungal and bacterial communities in grains. Pichia, Rhizopus, Saccharomyces, and Wickerhamomyces played important functional roles in the formation of Xiaoqu Baijiu flavor.
