The corrosion inhibition of 2-(benzylthio)-1,4,5-triphenyl-1H-imidazole (BTI) for carbon steel in a 1 M HCl solution was studied by means of weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) methods. Quantum chemical calculations based on the DFT method were performed on BTI. Molecular dynamics simulations were carried out to establish the mechanism of corrosion inhibition for carbon steel with BTI in HCl. Kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of activation using a statistical model were calculated. Polarization curves revealed that BTI is a mixed-type inhibitor. The results showed that BTI is a good inhibitor for the corrosion of carbon steel in 1.0 M HCl solution and that its inhibition efficiency is higher than 88% at 1 x 10(-3) M BTI. Adsorption of the inhibitor on the carbon steel surface follows the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, and the value of the free energy of adsorption, A Gad,, indicates that the adsorption of BTI is a spontaneous process.

Antioxidant and anticancer properties of plant-based bioactive flavonoids cardamonin and alpinetin: A theoretical insight from •OOH antiradical and Cu (II) chelation mechanisms

Mwadham M. Kabanda, Indra Bahadur, Prashant Singh

Summary: A comparative study of the antioxidant mechanisms of Cardamonin and Alpinetin revealed that Alpinetin has better radical scavenging ability in non-polar medium, while Cardamonin shows stronger metal chelation ability. Furthermore, Cardamonin may have more value in controlling various stages of cancer growth than Alpinetin.

New In Situ Catalysts Based on Nitro Functional Pyrazole Derivatives and Copper (II) Salts for Promoting Oxidation of Catechol to o-Quinone

Abderrahim Titi, Kaoutar Zaidi, Abdullah Y. A. Alzahrani, Mohamed El Kodadi, El Bekkaye Yousfi, Anna Moliterni, Belkheir Hammouti, Rachid Touzani, Mohamed Abboud

Summary: In this study, new substituted ligands based on pyrazole (L-1-L-4) were synthesized via a one-step condensation reaction. These ligands formed in situ complexes with various copper (II) salts, and catalyzed the oxidation of catechol to o-quinone. The catalytic activity depended on the ligand, counterion, and solvent. The complex formed by L-2 and Cu(CH3COO)(2) exhibited the highest catalytic activity in methanol.

Summary: In this study, the anti-corrosion performance of 1-dodecyl-3-phenylquinoxalin-2(1H)-one (QO12) for carbon steel (CS) was evaluated using various techniques. The results showed that QO12 achieved a maximum inhibition performance of 95.33% at a concentration of 0.001 M. The study revealed that QO12 acted as a mixed-type inhibitor and the corrosion process of CS was dominated by a transfer-of-charge mechanism. The adsorption of quinoxalinone followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. SEM analysis showed no corrosion deterioration after the addition of QO12.

Summary: This study investigated the corrosion inhibitory and adsorption properties of two imidazole derivatives, TIMQ and CDIQ, on carbon steel in 1 M HCl solution. The results showed that both TIMQ and CDIQ were effective inhibitors with inhibition efficiencies of 94.8% and 95.8% respectively. The inhibitors acted as mixed-type inhibitors and improved the formation of a protective layer on the metal surface. Adsorption of the inhibitors onto the carbon steel surface was observed through Langmuir adsorption isotherm method. These findings can be useful in evaluating the effectiveness of inhibitors in HCl acid solutions.

Summary: The article highlights common pitfalls in the literature, including deductions based on isolated inhibitors, the limitations of quantum methods in accounting for environmental aggressiveness, distrust in interpreting small energy descriptor differences, and the use of simplistic surface models. The study focuses on local reactivity descriptors for the molecule 6-chloro-2-phenylimidazo[1,2-b]pyridazine, and highlights the importance of considering the corrosive medium's nature and concentration. DM and MC methods are used to account for inhibitor-metal interactions and the dynamic aspects of the adsorption process. The study reveals that the adsorption energy of CP-IPZH does not reflect the polarization resistance in different concentrations of HCl.

Protection of C38 Steel in Acidic Solution by Eucalyptus Sidroxylon Essential Oil

L. Koursaoui, Y. Kerroum, M. Tabyaoui, A. Guenbour, A. Bellaouchou, A. Zarrouk, I. Warad, B. Satrani, M. Ghanmi, E. M. Aouane, A. Chaouch

Summary: This study found that eucalyptus essential oil, due to its antioxidant constituents, provides benefits to the immune system. Additionally, the study discovered that the oil acts as a corrosion inhibitor, effectively protecting C38 steel in an acidic solution of HCl. Various techniques, including gravimetric and electrochemical measurements, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis, were used to confirm these findings. The results showed that the eucalyptus essential oil reduces the corrosion rate and acts as a mixed inhibitor. The impedance data revealed a higher charge transfer resistance with increasing concentration of the oil, reaching an efficiency of 80% at 2.4 g/L. Thermodynamic parameters indicated that the interaction between the oil and the metal surface is endothermic, involving physical adsorption.
