Summary: Modification of food proteins by interactions with polyphenols can improve their functional properties. This study demonstrated that non-covalent complexation of soy isoflavones and whey proteins significantly increased the solubility of soy isoflavones and induced changes in the conformation and functionality of whey proteins. The findings provide useful information for the modification of whey proteins by polyphenols complexation.

Summary: This study successfully prepared whey protein nanoparticles loaded with soy isoflavones and investigated their physicochemical properties and digestion properties. The results showed that the properties of the nanoparticles were influenced by the mass ratios of soy isoflavones to whey proteins. The nanoparticles could release soy isoflavones in the intestinal tract, increasing their digestion stability and bioaccessibility. Additionally, the nanoparticles exhibited controlled release behavior through non-Fickian diffusion mechanism.

Summary: In this study, the energy recovery from two-stage mesophilic-thermophilic anaerobic digestion of cheese whey was assessed. The maximum energy production rate of 53.2 kJ/(L d) was achieved at a COD level of 13.8 g O2/L, HRT in an acidogenic reactor of 10 h, and HRT in a methanogenic reactor of 48 h. The maximum energy yield of 14.42 kJ/g COD was obtained at a COD level of 9.2 g O2/L, HRT in an acidogenic reactor of 10 h, and HRT in a methanogenic reactor of 72 h.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a novel methodology using aqueous micellar systems (AMS) to produce soy protein concentrates (SPC) from soybean flour and recover valuable bioactive compounds as by-products. The AMS consisted of ethoxylated aliphatic alcohols Tergitol 15-S-7 and Tergitol 15-S-9. The methodology involved an extraction stage with AMS, resulting in SPC and a supernatant containing bioactive compounds, followed by heating to obtain a biphasic system with a micelle-rich phase and an aqueous phase.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of alginate addition on the separation rate, recovery efficiency, and fractionation of metal ions (Pb2+, Cu2+, and Cd2+) in a batch foam separation system. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) was used as an ion collector and foaming agent. The addition of alginate significantly affected the separation rate and recovery efficiency of Pb2+. The optimal conditions for effective fractionation of Pb2+ and Cd2+ were an initial metal ion concentration of over 3.0 x 10-5 mol/L and an alginate concentration of over 0.199 g/L.

Summary: This study focused on the treatment of PVA-containing wastewater discharged from the textile industry. The feasibility of anaerobic treatment was verified through batch experiments, and a two stage SSSABs coupled SBR scheme was proposed, which showed higher removal rates compared to other schemes. Each reactor in the process was found to play an important role, and SEM images revealed the unique microbial flora in each SSSAB. The SSSAB-SSSAB-SBR process offers an alternative to chemical methods for treating PVA-containing wastewater.

Summary: This study aimed to enhance the production of polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) by obtaining volatile fatty acid (VFA) from food industry wastewater using a high-yield WA extraction system. The experiment was conducted in two stages: continuous production of VFA and batch production of PHB. The results showed that using wastewater and food industry wastewater effectively generated PHB to produce VFAs.
