The fungal endophyte Chaetomium globosum No.04 was isolated from the medicinal plant Ginkgo biloba. The crude extract of the fungus fermentation were active in the agar-diffusion tests against the phytopathogenic fungi Rhizopus stolonifer and Coniothyrium diplodiella. Further bioassay-guided chemical investigation led to the isolation and purification of six alkaloids and three non-targeted compounds from 50 L fermentation of this endophytic fungus and their structures were elucidated as chaetoglobosin A, C, D, E, G, R (1-6), ergosterol, allantoin and uracil, by means of spectroscopic analysis. Compounds 1-6 showed significant growth inhibitory activity against R. stolonifer and C. diplodiella at a concentration of 20 mu g/disc. We present here, for the first time, the potent antifungal activity of chaetoglobosins from endophytic fungi against two important phytopathogenic fungi R. stolonifer and C. diplodiella.

High-performance fabricated nano-adsorbents as emerging approach for removal of mycotoxins: a review

Chenggang Song, Jianchun Qin

Summary: Mycotoxins are highly toxic secondary metabolites produced by food-borne fungi that can contaminate food and feed, posing serious health risks. Nano-adsorbents, particularly in combination forms, show promising results for removing mycotoxins. This study presents a systematic review of the latest literature on various nano-adsorbents for mycotoxin elimination, summarizing their synthesis, performance, security, and adsorption mechanisms. It aims to provide an extensive overview, highlight limitations in current research, and inspire future research on mycotoxin control.

Anti-Aging Effects of Anthocyanin Extracts of Sambucus canadensis Caused by Targeting Mitochondrial-Induced Oxidative Stress

Xiaoqing Hu, Yimeng Yang, Shi Tang, Qiuyan Chen, Meiyu Zhang, Jiaoyan Ma, Jianchun Qin, Huimei Yu

Summary: This study evaluated the anti-aging effects of anthocyanin extracted from the fruits of Sambucus canadensis. The results showed that anthocyanin can significantly reduce cell senescence and aging of the lens by inhibiting the activity of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. It promotes the apoptosis of senescent cells, increases autophagic and mitophagic flux, enhances mitochondrial renewal and cell homeostasis, thus attenuating aging. Therefore, anthocyanin can be used as a potential senolytic in anti-aging therapies.

Multifunctional Metal-Organic Framework (MOF)-Based Nanoplatforms for Crop Protection and Growth Promotion

Chao-Yi Wang, Jian-Chun Qin, Ying-Wei Yang

Summary: Phytopathogens, pests, weeds, and nutrient deficiencies are major causes of crop losses worldwide. Agrochemicals play a crucial role in modern agriculture but also contribute to environmental burden due to inefficient use. By introducing nanomaterials into agriculture, nanotechnology offers new opportunities for precise and targeted delivery of agrochemicals, supporting sustainable development in green agriculture. Metal-Organic frameworks (MOFs) have shown great potential in constructing stimuli-responsive nanoplatforms for controlled agrochemical delivery. This review focuses on the recent advancements of MOF-based nanoplatforms in crop protection and growth promotion, including control of phytopathogens, pests, and weeds, and delivery of fertilizers and plant hormones. The challenges and future prospects of MOF-based nanoplatforms in crop protection and growth promotion are also discussed.
