Summary: Rectal squamous cell carcinoma is quite common and dangerous once it occurs. Patients with rectal squamous cell carcinoma often put a financial burden on their families and society, and may face challenges in receiving treatment and continuing work. This increase in cases also adds pressure on medical resources in society.

Summary: This systematic review found high consistent tumor take rates (TTRs) in established cell line models and varying TTRs in primary patient-derived models and genetically engineered models. However, there were several issues identified regarding the quality of reporting and methodological approach, which reduced the validity, transparency, and reproducibility of the studies and suggested a high risk of publication bias. Finally, each tumor model type has specific roles in research based on their advantages (and disadvantages).

Summary: Ketamine shows significant antiallodynic effects in mouse and rat models of nerve injury, with chronic administration resulting in lasting relief of allodynia. However, a single administration does not provide sustained relief, indicating a need for further research into the long-term efficacy of ketamine treatment in neuropathic pain.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the implementation of counseling and performance of opportunistic salpingectomy (OS) between 2015 and 2018, and its patient, surgical, physician, and hospital characteristics. The results showed that the proportion of counseling and performance increased over the years, but there were still variations. Therefore, an implementation strategy tailored to associated determinants is recommended.

Summary: The use of oral contraceptive pills may increase the risk of breast cancer but decrease the risk of ovarian cancer in BRCA1/2-PV carriers. Tubal ligation also offers protection against ovarian cancer. Counselling for BRCA1/2-PV carriers should be personalized, taking into account genetic and non-genetic factors as well as patient preferences.

Summary: This paper introduces a fast algorithm called 3Ranker for finding non-animal alternative methods in biomedical research. By utilizing machine learning and expert-curated data, the algorithm is able to accurately identify potential alternatives to animal use in a large number of articles. The algorithm performs well with Area Under the Curve (AUC) values ranging from 0.85-0.95 and demonstrates differences in the early implementation of the Three Rs principles across different research domains.

Summary: Introduction: The application of stereotactic laser ablation (SLA) for intra-cranial tumours has been growing, but comparative trials are lacking. This study investigated the familiarity with SLA and opinion on potential indications of European neurosurgeons. Results showed that most respondents considered SLA as a treatment option for recurrent glioblastoma, recurrent metastases, and newly diagnosed deep-seated glioblastoma.

Summary: In this exploratory study on 20 cadaveric bone tumor models, navigated curettage was not found to be more accurate than freehand curettage. However, the presence of remaining tumor indicates that there is still room for improvement in curettage procedures. The novice user was less accurate with navigation compared to freehand, which could be attributed to the learning curve. Furthermore, the expert user employed a different surgical approach, focusing more on complete tumor removal rather than preserving the surrounding bone.
