Summary: Maghemite nanoparticles were synthesized via a sol-gel process and annealed in an Ar/H-2 (5%) balanced gas atmosphere. The average particle size was found to be 7.0 nm with a narrow size distribution. The nanoparticles exhibited superparamagnetic behavior with a spinel structure. The Mossbauer result confirmed that the powder heat-treated at 150 & DEG;C was maghemite.

Summary: In this study, superparamagnetic maghemite-containing bioactive glass powders were prepared for the treatment of osteosarcoma. The results showed that the prepared glass composites have superparamagnetic properties and high bioactivity, with no cytotoxicity against osteosarcoma and pre-osteoblast cells. The drug-loaded glass powder also exhibited sustained release behavior.

Summary: We report the preparation, characterization, and heating efficiencies of undoped and Co-doped gamma-Fe2O3 nanoparticles for magnetic hyperthermia applications. The undoped gamma-Fe2O3 nanoparticles showed better heating efficiency compared to Co-doped samples. The results demonstrate the potential of these nanoparticles for magnetic hyperthermia applications.

Summary: Detailed calculations of the specific absorption rate (SAR) of dilute iron oxide nanoparticles with effective uniaxial anisotropy dispersed in a liquid were performed, showing different behaviors depending on particle diameters and the alternating magnetic field, with the relationship to viscosity being dependent on nanoparticle size. The behavior of SAR was explained by viscous and magnetic oscillation modes, with SAR practically independent of viscosity in the magnetic mode.

Summary: Superparamagnetic maghemite nanoparticles were fabricated through co-precipitation method. The size of the crystallites ranged from 6 nm to 7.8 nm depending on the synthesis temperature. The presence of a ZnO coating affected the magnetization value and drug release behavior of the nanoparticles, resulting in prolonged and sustained drug release.

Summary: The effect of urea ratio on the crystalline structure, magnetic characteristics, and textural properties of maghemite nanoparticles produced through autoignition was investigated. It was found that a fuel ratio of 3.0 is necessary to achieve mesoporous nanoparticles with an average pore diameter of 14 nm. Adjusting the fuel ratio to 5.0 favored the fabrication of relatively pure maghemite nanoparticles with a saturation magnetization of 52 emu g(-1). These nanoparticles had mesopores with a mean size of 33 nm and a surface area of 18.3 m(2) g(-1).

Summary: Iron oxide nanoparticles with a mean size of approximately 5 nm were synthesized using energetic electrons to irradiate micro-emulsions containing iron salts. The properties of the nanoparticles were investigated using various techniques, revealing that the formation of superparamagnetic nanoparticles starts at a dose of 50 kGy. The particles tend to form clusters and show increasing crystallinity and yield with increasing doses.

Summary: Iron oxide nanoparticles were successfully prepared via mechanochemical synthesis from three different reactive systems. The study investigated the effects of various iron salts and metallic iron on the properties of the nanoparticles, and determined high magnetization of the obtained iron oxide nanoparticles across a range of temperatures. The presence of metallic iron was found to be crucial in the formation of magnetic phases in the nanoparticles.

Summary: The effect of thermal annealing on the structural, optical and magnetic properties of alpha-Fe2O3/Ni1+xFe2-xO4 nanocomposites was investigated. The results showed that annealing increased the NiFe2O4 phase and magnetization of the nanocomposites. The annealing temperature had no effect on the optical properties of the samples, but led to the formation of irregular elliptical particles. All synthesized samples displayed effective exchange coupling and ferromagnetic features at room temperature.

Summary: Iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) have gained interest in biomedicine and research due to their moderate cytotoxicity and advanced properties. This study presents a modified one-step coprecipitation method using glycine, which allows the production of MNPs with controlled size and in situ surface decoration. The results show that increasing the glycine concentration reduces the particle size and affects the magnetic properties. This environmentally friendly and cost-effective approach has potential applications in biomedicine and wastewater treatment.
