Summary: This study investigates digital signal processing approaches to distinguish between protein coding and non-coding regions of DNA. Two new algorithms are proposed for adaptive mapping and finding periodicities. The new methods outperform classical methods in terms of accuracy and responsiveness, reducing the risk of missing coding sequences.

Summary: In this work, a novel method called SOMI is proposed for estimating the modal parameters of structures. SOMI can accurately estimate modal damping ratios and mode shapes using the Frequency Domain Decomposition principles. It eliminates the problems encountered by the FDD method and achieves better accuracy and robustness in noisy conditions.

Summary: Natural selection leaves a spatial pattern along the genome, and considering the genomic spatial distribution of multiple summary statistics allows for distinguishing patterns of natural selection from neutrality. Various methods have been developed to analyze genomic spatial distributions across summary statistics using machine learning and deep learning architectures. In this study, wavelet transform, multitaper spectral analysis, and S-transform were applied to summary statistic arrays, and the resulting images were fed into convolutional neural networks. The modeling framework achieved high accuracy and power in detecting selection and can be a valuable tool for studying adaptive processes from genomic data.

Summary: The Prism module implements recursive, linear phase FIR filtering with fixed computational cost and minimal design cost. A chain of six Prisms can create a narrowband filter with any central frequency and bandwidth using simple design rules. This technique applied to spectral analysis of data provides accurate estimates of frequency and amplitude of spectral peaks, identifying and rejecting spectral leakage for low amplitude and/or adjacent peaks.

Summary: We propose a unified theory and methodology for inferring evolutionary Fourier power spectra for a general class of locally stationary and possibly nonlinear processes. Our approach constructs simultaneous confidence regions with asymptotically correct coverage rates, enabling researchers and practitioners to visually evaluate the magnitude and pattern of the evolutionary power spectra with statistically guaranteed accuracy. This approach also serves as a unified tool for a wide range of statistical inference problems in time-frequency analysis.

Summary: In this study, we derive closed-form expressions for the covariance of covariance estimates for mixed-spectrum continuous-time signals, covering both finite-sample and asymptotic regimes. We also consider approximating signals with arbitrary spectral densities using sequences of singular spectrum processes and explore the limiting behavior of covariance estimates as the sample size and number of components increase. Our findings show that the asymptotic-regime variance can be described by a time-frequency resolution product, with different behavior depending on the construction of the approximation. Through numerical examples, we illustrate the theory and its implications for signal and array processing applications.

Summary: This paper introduces a hypergraph-based new point cloud model for efficient analysis and processing of 3D point clouds. By estimating hypergraph spectrum, an analytical connection with structural features is established. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of hypergraph signal processing as a tool for characterizing the properties of 3D point clouds.

Summary: The phylogenetic relationships between Hylotelephium and Orostachys were evaluated by analyzing their complete chloroplast genomes. The study found that these two genera have similar genome structure and gene features, but the genus delimitation is not clear due to the paraphyly of Hylotelephium with subsect. Orostachys. The taxonomic position of Sedum taqeutii was also supported as an independent taxon.

Summary: Seven methods were tested for sequence analysis of plant genomic DNA, and results showed that partial genomic DNA sequences could be sufficiently analyzed without the need for genomic DNA and PCR product purification. Successful screening of gene-edited plants was achieved, reducing time and simplifying the workflow of plant gene analysis.

Summary: Although frequency-domain algorithms have been shown to be effective for traditional nonlinear signal processing, there is still limited literature on nonlinear graph signal processing in the frequency domain. This paper introduces a distributed nonlinear polynomial graph filter (NPGF) to characterize the nonlinear input-output relationship using polynomial-type nonlinearity. Additionally, the nonlinear output graph signal is reformulated based on the multi-dimensional inverse graph Fourier transform (GFT), providing a more efficient way to calculate the output graph signal.

Summary: R-loops, formed by RNA-DNA hybrid and displaced single-stranded DNA, are common non-B nucleic acid structures that play important roles in human diseases by promoting mutagenesis, hyper-recombination, and transcription-replication collisions. To better study and predict R-loops, researchers have developed the R-loop tracker tool, integrating it with other nucleic acids analysis tools and enhancing visualization outputs.

Summary: Fractal dimensions and characteristic periodicities were evaluated in normal sentences, computer-generated word salads, and word salads from schizophrenia patients in both Japanese and English. Results showed similar tendencies in both languages, but significant differences were observed in fractal dimensions and characteristic periodicities between the groups. These differences could be sensitive markers to discriminate between schizophrenia and healthy mental states and utilized in social robots for mental state assessment.

Summary: This paper thoroughly analyzes the spectral characteristics of space telemetry signals when randomizers are used to counter power excess, showing that a long randomizer improves spectral characteristics but cannot solve critical issues with all-zero frames or constant data transmission. Suitable solutions are proposed to address these cases and ensure minimal power excess in all operation conditions, while also investigating the impact of high-order modulations and error correcting codes.

Summary: The paper focuses on the implementation of LDPC encoding in the Telecommand transmitter of the Ground Station, presenting two techniques that significantly reduce complexity and allow for higher uplink bit rates. The choice of a CPU-based software solution is shown to achieve the high performance required by new Telecommand applications. The results of tests on the real-time software implementation of the new system demonstrate the performance achievable with different encoding options.

Summary: This article introduces and designs sparse constellations for direct-to-satellite Internet of Things (DtS-IoT), which significantly reduces the number of satellites needed by adjusting transmission delay and optimizing the positioning of orbiting gateways. The results show that sparse constellations provide worldwide IoT coverage with fewer satellites compared to traditional constellations. Region-specific coverage for Africa and Europe can be achieved with a small number of satellites.

Summary: Advances in machine learning, particularly deep learning, have expanded its applications in various fields. In this study, we focused on the application of deep learning, specifically the NR-CsiNet framework, for channel state information feedback reporting in FDD 5G networks. Our framework aims to compress and reconstruct the channel matrix using a 5G New Radio fully compliant simulator, incorporating realistic 5G scenarios and noisy downlink channel estimation. Simulations showed promising results in terms of block error rate and throughput compared to current feedback reporting schemes for the 5G data channel.

Summary: In this paper, a new mega-constellation services space paradigm is introduced, demonstrating the excellent connectivity that mega-constellations can provide for LEO spacecrafts. The communication link between space users and existing constellations is characterized, providing results on availability, access duration, Doppler, and path losses based on user orbital parameters. The potential improvements of using geostationary constellations in a multi-orbit system are discussed, and specific LEO use cases are presented. The results highlight the advantages of the mega-constellation connectivity solution in transforming LEO spacecrafts into responsive nodes of a space-to-space network.
