Summary: The introduction of crown ether into the polymeric backbone can enhance the chains packing density, reducing d-spacing and accessible fractional free volume. The membrane showed typical molecular sieving separation mechanism with permeabilities in the order of He > H-2 > CO2 > N-2 > CH4. Incorporation of DB21C7 improved diffusion selectivity and solubility selectivity, leading to significant selectivity increases in various gas pairs compared to non-crown ether contained polyimide membrane. Membrane material design for high purity gas requirement may benefit from introducing crown ether moiety into the polymeric backbone.

Summary: Mesoporous low dielectric polyimide films were prepared by incorporating controlled hollow mesoporous SiO2 nanomicrospheres. The addition of hollow mesoporous SiO2 improved the thermal stability, mechanical properties, and hydrophobicity of the composite films, leading to a decrease in dielectric constant.

Summary: The demand for high-speed communication at high frequency has led to the development of low-dielectric polymer films. Aromatic polyimide (PI) is commonly used in flexible circuit boards due to its excellent properties, but its dielectric constant is relatively high for high-frequency communication. To address this, a hyper-crosslinked polymer (HCP) was synthesized and blended with PI to form all-organic HCP/PI composite films. The porous structure of HCP helps to reduce the dielectric constant of the PI matrix. By adjusting the HCP content, the dielectric constant of the composite films can be effectively lowered in the desired frequency range. This method is simple and can be applied to other organic component-filled PI systems.

Summary: Crown ethers are valuable in the fields of supramolecular chemistry and crystal engineering due to their significant conformational flexibility and rotational symmetry. This study synthesized and characterized four supramolecular compounds and found that the crystal structure, phase transition, and dielectric properties are significantly influenced by the size of the crown-ether rings. The research also discussed the coordination mode of metal ions with crown ethers, the compatibility between metal ions and crown-ether rings in terms of size, and the effects of crown-ether disorder on dielectric permittivity during phase transitions.

Summary: Crownphyrins are a class of hybrid macrocycles combining structural features of porphyrin and crown ethers. They possess the ability to bind neutral and ionic guests. The presence of dynamic covalent imine linkages connecting the dipyrrin segment with the ether chain enables unusual coordination behavior of crownphyrins.

Summary: The dielectric properties of polyimide (PI) can be improved by introducing trifluoromethyl and forming a host-guest inclusion complex with crown ethers (CEs). In this study, low-dielectric PI films were prepared using three different bisphenol A-containing diamines and thermal imidization. The addition of crown ethers effectively reduced the high-frequency dielectric loss of the modified PI films. The dielectric properties of the composite films were significantly improved, making them potential substrates for high-frequency 5G communication.

Summary: The combination of Nobel macrocycle-crown ether and star macrocycle-pillararenes offers significant advantages in organic synthesis and material science, providing hybrid systems with flexible/rigid structural architecture, induced planar chirality, negative cooperative effect, and multiple fused cyclic hosts. The synthesis and preparation of these hybrid systems can be achieved through various bonding methods, leading to applications in molecular recognition, ion channels, and smart materials. Researchers are encouraged to explore academic and technical issues related to topological structures and applied functions in this emerging field of fused macrocycles.

Summary: Supramolecular polymers, constructed through self-assembly of noncovalent interactions like host-guest interaction, have both the advantages of traditional polymers and unique characteristics. Crown ethers, as a widely used host molecule, can be easily modified and derivatized, making them ideal candidates for the fabrication of interesting supramolecular polymers.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of crown-ether ring size and rigidity on the gas separation performance and plasticization behavior of Matrimid (R) 5218 polyimide membranes. The crown-ether containing membranes exhibit enhanced solubility selectivity for CO2 but reduced solubility and permeability for both CO2 and N-2. The variation in crown-ether size and rigidity does not significantly affect the plasticization resistance of the membranes.
