Summary: Intermittent fasting has the potential to reduce the risk of liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma, especially among non-alcoholic steatohepatitis patients. However, cirrhotic patients may be more vulnerable to malnutrition and liver-related adverse events. Additionally, intermittent fasting can improve response and tolerance to treatment.

Summary: Coercive measures in psychiatry have a negative impact on patients, and efforts to reduce their use are increasing. However, there has been limited focus on the timing of coercive measures during hospitalization. This study analyzed the times of coercive measures and identified predictors for their use during early hospitalization, highlighting the need for preventative efforts and interventions tailored to this high-risk period.

Summary: Placenta previa, multiple gestations, and placental abruption were identified as the strongest risk factors for extreme preterm birth. Risk factors including placental abruption and previa, lack of prenatal care, and recurrent pregnancy loss were observed in sub-populations with multiple gestations, previous PTB, and indicated PTBs. Placental abruption emerged as the most significant risk factor across all groups, with no significant differences observed between sub-populations.

Summary: Among ESLD patients, a QTc > 500 ms was associated with post-LT 30-day MACE, suggesting a longer QTc threshold should be considered for this patient population.

Summary: Acute kidney injury (AKI) after liver transplantation (LT) is associated with major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and major adverse kidney events (MAKE). It is also an independent predictor and risk factor for cardiovascular disease and end-stage renal disease.

Summary: The study examined screening and risk rates in a large pediatric primary care network in the United States after expanding universal depression screening guidelines to cover all well-visits for adolescents. Findings showed variations in screening likelihood based on sociodemographic factors, with certain groups more likely to endorse depression symptoms and suicidality. Addressing these misalignments is crucial for ensuring more equitable screening implementation and health outcomes.

Summary: Through multivariate logistic regression analysis, we found that the main risk factors for developing endogenous Candida endophthalmitis in candidemic patients include the presence of a central venous catheter, intravenous drug use, immunosuppression, total parenteral nutrition recipient, race, age, and Candida albicans infection. Clinicians should develop targeted and cost-effective screening strategies based on these risk factors.

Summary: This study investigated the 30-day incidence of VTE after gynecologic oncologic surgery and identified perioperative factors associated with postoperative VTE. The results showed that laparotomy, ascites, disseminated cancer, longer operative time, and low pre-operative albumin were risk factors for VTE.

Summary: Assessment and prediction of liver function is crucial due to the increase of donor risk and majority of marginal organs. Traditional tests require prolonged diagnostic time and are difficult to assess, while dynamic organ preservation strategies offer an opportunity to evaluate organs before implantation through analysis of recirculating perfusates, bile, and perfused liver tissue.

Summary: The study identified a high frequency of chronic kidney disease following liver transplantation and found associations between CKD and factors such as age, sex, baseline eGFR, severity of liver disease, metabolic syndrome, and acute kidney injury. A higher tacrolimus concentration to dose ratio was found to be protective against CKD. CKD was linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, reduced graft, and patient survival after transplantation.

Summary: Hyperandrogenism in women is associated with increased prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors and risk of cardiovascular disease. The relationship is independent of body mass index in premenopausal women, but dependent on obesity in postmenopausal women. The overall risk of cardiovascular disease in hyperandrogenic postmenopausal women is similar to controls. The reason for reduced cardiometabolic risk after menopause in hyperandrogenic women is not clear.
