Summary: This study investigates the role of MEN1 mutations in sporadic PHPT in Indian patients and identifies certain MEN1 variants associated with disease recurrence and the detection of other endocrine tumors. The findings suggest that early screening for MEN1-related tumors and disease recurrence can be prompted by detecting MEN1 variations, especially those with disease-specific potential.

Summary: The aim of this study was to estimate the clinical and biochemical profile, complications, surgical intervention, and medical therapy of patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) in the Russian Federation. The results showed that the detection rate of PHPT has increased in recent years, but most patients still had significant alterations in phosphorus-calcium metabolism, indicating delayed diagnosis and the need for further improvement in medical care.

Summary: NIRAF showed potential benefits in aiding parathyroid identification during surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism, however, it did not improve cure rates compared to traditional methods. Further studies on larger patient cohorts and fluorescence patterns are needed to explore the full potential of NIRAF in surgical settings.

Summary: Genetic screening in a Mediterranean cohort of suspected familial hyperparathyroidism revealed a high prevalence of germline variants, leading to early diagnosis and treatment for patients and early intervention in their relatives. It is recommended to conduct genetic testing for patients with primary hyperparathyroidism who present high-risk features.

Summary: This case report describes a 52-year-old male patient diagnosed with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) through gastrinoma, parathyroid adenoma and gene detection. The patient had relapsed primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and received ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) as a treatment. The patient showed remarkable recovery after RFA for the relapsed PHPT. RFA may be considered as an alternative treatment for MEN1 patients with high surgical risk or those unwilling or unable to undergo surgery.

Summary: This study presents the experience with 143 cases of P-FNAB with iPTH-WC assessment and compares it with other imaging techniques. The results show that P-FNAB with iPTH-WC is a highly sensitive method for localizing parathyroid adenoma during PHPT, surpassing the sensitivity of Tc99-MIBI. Furthermore, P-FNAB has mild complications and can be considered a safe procedure.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of pamidronate for moderate-to-severe parathyroid hormone-related hypercalcemia (PTHRH) and found that pamidronate is effective and safe for treating PTHRH, with close laboratory monitoring of calcium and phosphorus metabolism recommended. Larger prospective studies are needed to further establish the role of pamidronate and other potent bisphosphonates in moderate-to-severe PTHRH.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the importance of routine CT in the diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism. The results showed that enlarged parathyroid glands were frequently visible on CT images, which corresponded to pathologically proven parathyroid lesions. Almost half of the patients developed hyperparathyroidism-related comorbidities between CT and subsequent biochemical screening.

Summary: We present a case of a 9-year-old girl with symptomatic hypercalcemia from primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). The patient had persistent hyperparathyroidism after initial surgical intervention, but a successful redo parathyroidectomy cured her condition. We also review common locations for ectopic parathyroid adenomas.

Summary: We report a rare case of a 39-year-old woman with ankylosing spondylitis who was simultaneously diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism and familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia. This study highlights the importance of considering familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia as a possible diagnosis, even in patients with an established diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism.

Summary: The aim of this study was to identify preoperative predictors of single-gland primary hyperparathyroidism (SG-PHPT). The study found that lower phosphate levels were associated with SG-PHPT, while normal phosphate levels were associated with multigland PHPT (MG-PHPT). Additionally, elevated parathyroid hormone and positive imaging were confirmed as predictors of SG-PHPT.

Summary: This study evaluated the persistence and recurrence of hypercalcemia in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism after parathyroidectomy. The results showed that the recurrence rate of hypercalcemia after successful treatment is higher than previously reported. Most cases are transient and often associated with other factors, with only a minority of patients requiring treatment. Long-term follow-up of serum calcium should be considered in patients after successful parathyroidectomy.

Summary: Studies of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) in multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2A (MEN 2A) have shown varying frequencies, definitions, and clinical characteristics. This nationwide population-based retrospective study provides a representative frequency and strict definition of PHPT in MEN 2A. The findings reveal a lower frequency and later onset of PHPT than previously reported, suggesting a milder course of the disease.

Summary: This study evaluated the role of plasma metabolomics in atherosclerosis based on the presence of type 1 diabetes (T1D) or previous preeclampsia in 105 women. The results showed significant differences in lipidic-, energetic- and nitrogen-related metabolites according to the presence of T1D/preeclampsia, with lipidomic-related metabolites being associated with atherosclerosis in the whole sample. Stronger associations were observed in women with previous preeclampsia for certain metabolites.

Summary: This study found that measuring thigh muscle thickness (TMT) using musculoskeletal ultrasound (MUS) can be a simple and feasible method to identify sarcopenic obesity (SO). The TMT value can predict skeletal muscle index (SMI) evaluated by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), with a cutoff point of 1.57 cm.

Summary: This study found that pregestational obesity is associated with a higher risk of ADHD in offspring of GDM pregnancies. However, excessive weight gain during pregnancy does not have an independent effect on ADHD risk. Only the joint association of obesity and excessive weight gain during pregnancy remains significant in relation to ADHD risk.

Summary: The study evaluates the usefulness of musculoskeletal ultrasound (MUS) and bioelectrical impedance (BIA) in assessing body composition and quality of life (QoL) in patients undergoing bariatric surgery (BS). The results indicate that MUS can complement BIA for evaluating and following up on body composition after BS. Quadriceps muscle thickness provides relevant information on regional sarcopenia and correlates significantly with QoL.
