Summary: The study found that autistic people are overrepresented in gender clinic settings, but there is limited evidence to guide clinical decision making for this patient group. Participants agreed on the need for autism adaptations in gender clinics, but had varying perspectives on how autism impacts self-knowledge. Autistic adults were more likely to see autism as an important identity compared to young people.

Summary: This study examined the trend in the number of individuals with gender incongruence in Denmark over the past 40 years and found a substantial increase in legal sex-changes and healthcare contacts related to gender-identity conditions, with a more than 10-fold increase in the last decade. This calls for further research on possible reasons for this increase, as well as the short-term and long-term health consequences of hormonal and surgical treatments, and the need for adequate healthcare facilities.

Summary: Gender assignment in infants with DSD is a challenging decision, as some may develop gender identity disorder (GID) later in life. This review analyzed GID prevalence in adolescents and adults with DSD to assist in appropriate sex assignment to prevent GID development. GID varied among different DSD conditions, with lower rates in females with CAH, CAIS, and CGD, and higher rates in females with 5ARD and 17HSD. Recommendations for sex assignment were unclear in PAIS or MGD cases.

Summary: The study found that transgender women's perceptions of their mothers were significantly different from those concerning their fathers. Transgender men and women had a positive perception of their relationship with their mothers and a negative perception of their fathers. In terms of parenting practices, women felt that their mothers exhibited more positive practices than their fathers.

Summary: This study retrospectively evaluated the procedural outcomes and changing trends of utilization among patients undergoing histrelin implantation at a large pediatric tertiary care center over 15 years. The study found that histrelin procedures have increased in frequency overall, with a greater increase noted in the gender dysphoria cohort. This study demonstrates that histrelin procedures can be safely performed in the clinic setting through the establishment of streamlined processes and a dedicated team.

Summary: Adolescence is a period of rapid brain development, and the changes in white matter are partly attributed to hormonal fluctuations. This systematic review examines the associations between hormonal changes and white matter properties across species, with a focus on sex differences. The review finds that increases in gonadal hormones during puberty are associated with structural changes in white matter tracts, particularly in the corpus callosum, which align with findings in non-human animals. The paper concludes with recommendations for future research in order to further understand the neuroscience of puberty.

Summary: While the significance of gender has recently been recognized, its influence on neurological development and neuropsychiatric disorders among young people has long been understood. Gender disparities in these disorders exist among pediatric population, indicating the necessity of new guidelines. Further research is urgently needed to understand the role of gender in diagnosis, development, and treatment of neurologic and neuropsychiatric diseases, particularly in children and adolescents. It is also important to consider unique risks associated with gender disorders and gender dysphoria when approaching pediatric patients.

Summary: This study found that gender affirming treatment with testosterone (T) is associated with lower levels of internalizing symptoms, greater body satisfaction, and stronger connectivity in neural circuit related to anxiety and depression among transgender adolescent boys. Satisfaction with body image was also found to play a role in the relationship between testosterone and depression/suicidality, while amygdala-prefrontal co-activation moderated the effect of testosterone on anxiety symptoms.

Summary: Compared to the general population, transgender individuals have a higher prevalence of Klinefelter syndrome according to observational studies. However, underdiagnosis in the general population limits the accuracy of the conclusions. Routine karyotype analysis is not recommended in transgender individuals initiating gender-affirming hormone therapy unless there are clinical features of Klinefelter syndrome. Transgender individuals with Klinefelter syndrome who desire feminizing gender-affirming hormone therapy need to manage unique risk profiles.

Summary: This study explores the perspectives of transgender adolescents, their parents, and clinicians on the medical decision-making competence (MDC) to start puberty suppression (PS). The findings suggest that assessing MDC is challenging, but understanding, appreciating, reasoning, and communicating a choice are important criteria. While most participants believe understanding and appreciating PS is important for MDC, they also acknowledge that adolescents may not fully comprehend the consequences. Parental support is considered essential in the decision-making process, and clinicians find it difficult to assess and implement MDC consistently.

This study found that there are differences between "younger" and "older" presenters among a large cohort of transgender adolescents. Older presenters were more likely to be assigned female at birth, while younger presenters were more likely to live with both biological parents. Older presenters were also more dissatisfied with their bodies, while younger presenters showed more childhood gender nonconformity.

Summary: This study examined the reproductive decisions of adults who underwent gender-affirming hormone treatment in adolescence. Data was collected through an online survey with 89 participants. The results showed that 96% of participants underwent gonadectomy, resulting in permanent infertility, and 27% of them found it troublesome. The study also found that 44% of AFAB and 35% of AMAB individuals in the current TGD population would pursue fertility preservation. Furthermore, the percentage of participants desiring children increased from 34% during adolescence to 56% in adulthood, with 23% of them having started a family.

The majority of participants reported various barriers, with lack of support from family and friends, as well as travel time and costs, being the most frequently reported. Higher number of reported barriers was associated with more mental health problems, lower income, and female gender.
