Summary: The study indicates that VRS can differentiate patients with UIP histological features from non-IPF diagnosis in CT images, showing predictive value. The sensitivity and specificity of VRS in predicting pathological UIP are comparable to standard qualitative CT assessment.

Summary: Elevated serum progranulin (PGRN) levels may help differentiate between idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and other interstitial lung diseases (ILDs). Non-IPF ILD patients had significantly higher serum PGRN levels compared to healthy subjects and IPF patients. Non-UIP patterns on high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) were associated with significantly elevated PGRN levels, while UIP patterns were associated with normal PGRN levels.

Summary: BAL lymphocytosis is associated with favorable outcomes in patients treated with anti-inflammatory drugs, indicating its potential as a predictive biomarker for identifying IIP patients likely to benefit from anti-inflammatory therapy. However, BAL lymphocytosis does not have prognostic value in patients managed without anti-inflammatory therapy.

Summary: Myositis associated ILD is a commonly under-recognized condition. This multicenter retrospective study identified 75 patients with myositis associated-ILD and found that specific ILD radiographic patterns can indicate underlying inflammatory myopathies. Incorporating these radiological patterns in the diagnostic criteria may improve timely interventions and positively impact patients' survival.

Summary: This study evaluated the surgical outcomes after surgery in patients with stage I lung cancer and idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP), and found that the overall survival of patients with IIP was poor, which was related to the high prevalence of cancer-specific and respiratory-related deaths. It was also found that sublobar resection is not always feasible and the procedure on patients with IIP should be selected carefully according to the characteristics of each case. Nodal dissection should be performed to evaluate for metastasis, regardless of the extent of lung resection.

Summary: This study found that increased BAL lymphocyte proportion is rare in patients with extensive fibrosis or a UIP pattern on CT, and in patients without extensive fibrosis or a non-UIP pattern, an increased BAL lymphocyte proportion is associated with a lower likelihood of disease progression.

Summary: This study describes the clinical and diagnostic findings, outcome, and pathologic lesions associated with influenza pneumonia in donkeys. The clinical signs of equine influenza virus infection in donkeys are similar to those observed in horses. The prognosis for survival is generally good, but deaths have been observed especially in foals born to seronegative dams, highlighting the importance of prenatal vaccination protocols in all equids, including donkeys.

Summary: The long-term pulmonary outcomes of COVID-19 after 3 months of hospital admission include chest CT opacities and reduced diffusing capacity in one-fourth of the participants. ICU patients did not show significant differences in dyspnoea scores and lung function, but had a higher prevalence of abnormal chest CT findings.

Summary: By evaluating the correlation between radiologic and histologic features, it was found that subpleural fibrotic interstitial lung abnormalities (ILAs) are associated with pathologic usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) patterns. The recognition of subpleural fibrotic ILAs on CT scans is important for predicting disease progression and mortality risk.

Summary: The focus of research on idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs) lies in understanding the association between radiologic and histologic patterns of lung injury and various diseases and environmental factors. The term idiopathic is misleading as these diseases are often associated with diverse etiologies, and a shift towards more etiology-focused nomenclature is beneficial for better management and understanding of interstitial lung diseases (ILDs).

Summary: This study describes the phenotype of patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) and heterozygous PARN mutations, showing that idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is common among individuals with PARN mutation. Other ILD subtypes may also be observed, and some patients may experience disease progression leading to death or lung transplantation despite specific treatment.

Summary: This study reviewed the outcomes after lung transplantation in carriers of TRG gene mutations, identifying myelodysplasia and short telomeres as predictors of post-LT survival. All patients experienced anemia, with 66% having thrombocytopenia and 39% having neutropenia post-LT. Hematological evaluation should be conducted systematically before lung transplantation to improve outcomes.

Summary: IgG4-related disease is characterized by tissue infiltration leading to fibrosis and organomegaly, with clinical presentation varying widely. High serum IgG4 concentration, previously considered a diagnostic hallmark, may not always be present in patients. Elevated IgG2, IgG1, and IgG3 levels were observed in some cases, underscoring the complexity of diagnosing IgG4-RD.

Summary: Sarcoidosis-associated pulmonary hypertension (SAPH) is a significant complication of advanced sarcoidosis. A task force was established to summarize the current knowledge and provide guidance for patient management, including screening and diagnosis. The committee has developed consensus regarding screening and further testing, as well as the need for joint decision-making with experts in sarcoidosis and pulmonary hypertension for specific treatment. However, there are still significant knowledge gaps regarding SAPII that need to be addressed in future studies.

Summary: This study investigates the concentration of relaxin-2 in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and non-GDM during pregnancy, comparing urinary incontinence and pelvic function status. The results show that lower relaxin-2 concentration is associated with the presence of pregnancy-specific urinary incontinence, and the combination of GDM, pregnancy-specific urinary incontinence, and lower levels of pelvic floor strength leads to even lower levels of relaxin-2.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the features that may predict the outcome of patients with post anoxic coma (PAC) by analyzing electroencephalographic (EEG) patterns. The presence of EEG paroxysms (EP) and their regularity features were strongly associated with poor outcome in PAC patients. A global regularity score derived from visual EEG inspection could be a reliable prognostic tool.
