Summary: The study reported the clinicopathologic features of acquired oral syphilis cases in South American countries, finding that secondary syphilis was the most common stage, with lesions more commonly occurring in males and young adults. The most common clinical manifestations included mucous patches, papules, and ulcers, often accompanied by skin lesions, lymphadenopathy, and fever.

A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Relationship Between the Severity of Dental Fluorosis and Fluoride Biomarkers in Endemic Areas

Jesus Lavalle-Carrasco, Marcela Vergara-Onofre, Rogelio Gonzalez-Gonzalez, Ronell Bologna-Molina, Mario Alberto Isiordia-Espinoza, Enrique Gaona, Nelly Molina-Frechero

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis found a positive correlation between fluoride biomarkers in urine and nails and the severity of dental fluorosis. Both biomarkers are suitable for assessing the relationship between fluoride and endemic fluorosis.

Triacylglycerides and Cholesterol in Organic Milk from Chiapas, Mexico

Jose Jesus Perez Gonzalez, Marcela Guillermina Ortiz Romero, Beatriz Schettino Bermudez, Jorge Luis Ruiz Rojas, Claudia Cecilia Radilla Vazquez, Nelly Molina Frechero, Rey Gutierrez Tolentino

Summary: The study analyzed the profile of triacylglycerides and sterols in raw cow's milk fat produced under organic conditions in Tecpatan, Chiapas, Mexico. The triacylglyceride values showed a bimodal behavior, with cholesterol being the main sterol present. The results indicate that the feeding conditions have a significant impact on the composition of milk fat.

Antagonistic, synergistic, and additive antibacterial interaction between ciprofloxacin and amoxicillin against Staphylococcus aureus

Eduardo Gomez-Sanchez, Lorenzo Franco-de La Torre, Adriana Hernandez-Gomez, Angel Josabad Alonso-Castro, Nicolas Serafin-Higuera, Flavio Teran-Rosales, Ronell Eduardo Bologna-Molina, Mario Alberto Isiordia-Espinoza

Summary: The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the interaction between ciprofloxacin and amoxicillin against beta-lactamase-producing Staphylococcus aureus. Different ratios of the ciprofloxacin-amoxicillin combination were assessed, and the results showed synergistic, additive, or antagonistic antimicrobial effects. The data mainly support antimicrobial additive results of the ciprofloxacin-amoxicillin combination against beta-lactamase-producing S. aureus.

Spatial distribution of CD34 protein in primordial odontogenic tumour, ameloblastic fibroma and the tooth germ

Vanesa Pereira Prado, Gabriel Landini, Adalberto Mosqueda Taylor, Pablo Vargas, Ronell Bologna Molina

Summary: This study investigates the expression of CD34 marker in primordial odontogenic tumour and compares it with ameloblastic fibroma and normal tooth germ. The results reveal unique expression patterns and higher cellularity in primordial odontogenic tumour, supporting the idea that it is a distinct entity.

Mechanical profile of human keratinocytes expressing HPV-18 oncogenes

Magdalena Millan, Lihuen Villarreal, Natali D'Aiuto, Ronell Bologna-Molina, Jose Sotelo-Silveira, Juan C. Benech, Jimena Hochmann, Miguel Arocena

Summary: During tumorigenesis, the mechanical properties of cancer cells change, with decreased stiffness often accompanying a more invasive phenotype. A recent study used atomic force microscopy to measure cell stiffness and observed a decrease in Young's modulus and cell rigidity in the pre-tumoral cell model of cervical cancer. This study suggests that decreased stiffness and perturbation in cell shape are early mechanical and morphological changes during malignant transformation.

Artificial Intelligence for Image Analysis in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Review

Vanesa Pereira-Prado, Felipe Martins-Silveira, Estafania Sicco, Jimena Hochmann, Mario Alberto Isiordia-Espinoza, Rogelio Gonzalez Gonzalez, Deepak Pandiar, Ronell Bologna-Molina

Summary: Differential diagnosis and prognosis of head and neck tumors have always been challenging due to their similarities and complexity. Artificial intelligence applications in digital histopathological image analysis have shown to be helpful in the objective interpretation of oral squamous cell carcinoma. Further research is necessary, especially in terms of clinical validation.

Stafne's bone defect: a systematic review

Alini Soares, Luise Ferreira, Camila Calderipe, Ronell Bologna-Molina, Melissa Damian, Manoela Martins, Felipe Silveira, Ana Carolina Vasconcelos

Summary: This systematic review examined the clinical, imaging, and histopathological characteristics of Stafne's bone defect (SBD). The findings showed that SBD is more prevalent in male patients in their fifth and sixth decade of life. Radiographically, SBD is characterized as a single, unilocular, and well-defined lesion in the posterior region of the jaw with a radiolucent/hypodense appearance.
