Pseudo-Pt Monolayer for Robust Hydrogen Oxidation

Tonghui Zhao, Mengting Li, Dongdong Xiao, Xiaoju Yang, Qihao Li, Lulu An, Zhiping Deng, Tao Shen, Mingxing Gong, Yi Chen, Gongwei Wang, Xu Zhao, Li Xiao, Xuan Yang, Li Li, Deli Wang

Summary: We report a heteroepitaxial core-shell structure that combines the advantages of the epilayer and the substrate, creating a multifunctional catalyst for catalysis application. The pseudomorphic-Pt atomic layer epitaxially growing on an IrPd-core matrix (PmPt@IrPd/C) exhibits significantly enhanced mass activity and stability compared to benchmark Pt/C. The improved stability is attributed to resistance to carbon corrosion and modulated hydroxyl adsorption.

EREG is the core onco-immunological biomarker of cuproptosis and mediates the cross-talk between VEGF and CD99 signaling in glioblastoma

Yujie Zhou, Dongdong Xiao, Xiaobing Jiang, Chuansheng Nie

Summary: This study integrated bulk RNA sequencing and single cell RNA sequencing data to investigate the role of copper-induced cell death in glioblastoma. The study found that the developed scoring model has independent prognostic efficacy and identified key genes and signaling pathways associated with high CuAS expression. Furthermore, CuAS showed potential for immunotherapy and several drugs were predicted to be useful for patients with high CuAS.

Screening strategy for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Saisai Zhang, Lung-Yi Mak, Man-Fung Yuen, Wai-Kay Seto

Summary: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common chronic liver disease with a significant global health burden. Non-invasive tests for assessing and monitoring NAFLD are now feasible and highlighted in international guidelines. Identifying high-risk populations and utilizing various screening methods are important for precise and effective screening strategies.

Clinical practice guidelines and real-life practice in hepatocellular carcinoma: A Hong Kong perspec-tive

Rex Wan-Hin Hui, Lung-Yi Mak, Tan -To Cheung, Victor Ho -Fun Lee, Wai-Kay Seto, Man-Fung Yuen

Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a significant public health issue in Hong Kong, with chronic hepatitis B being the most common cause. This article provides an overview of local guidelines and real-life practices for managing HCC in Hong Kong. The guidelines recommend regular screening with liver ultrasound and serum alpha-fetoprotein for viral hepatitis or cirrhotic patients, and this is followed in clinical practice. Diagnosis is usually done through imaging, without the need for histology. Treatment options, such as stereotactic body radiation therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, are outlined in the guidelines. Overall, the guidelines are tailored to the local expertise and patient population, and regular updates are necessary to keep up with advancements in HCC management. High-Voltage Spinel and Li2MnO3 Composite Structure Construction in LiMn0.8Ni0.2O2 for Manganese-Based Lithium-Ion Battery Cathode Materials

Shiqi Liu, Dongdong Xiao, Boya Wang, Lihang Wang, Tianhao Wu, Yinzhong Wang, Nian Zhang, Haijun Yu

Summary: Layered Mn-based oxides with a composite structure, containing a pre-introduced high-voltage spinel crystal domain, exhibit good structural stability and optimal performance after electrochemical activation. This design stabilizes the entire structure before the degradation of the parent structures and distinguishes the electrochemical contributions of layered Li2MnO3 and pre-introduced high-voltage spinel crystal domains. The study provides new guidelines for designing high-performance composite-structure Mn-based cathode materials through the pre-introduction of stable crystal domains.

Ternary NASICON-typed Na3.8MnV0.8Zr0.2(PO4)3 cathode with stable Mn2+/Mn3+ redox and fast sodiation/desodiation kinetics for Na-ion batteries

Ao Tang, Shu Zhang, Weiguang Lin, Dongdong Xiao, Jun Ma, Chaoqun Shang, Min Yan, Zhanhui Zhang, Changlian Chen, Zhiliang Huang, Katerina E. Aifantis, Pu Hu, Guanglei Cui

Summary: In this study, a novel ternary NASICON Na3.8MnV0.8Zr0.2(PO4)(3) was successfully synthesized and tested as a cathode material for rechargeable sodium-ion batteries. By partially substituting Zr4+, the obtained Na3.8MnV0.8Zr0.2(PO4)(3) exhibited a high capacity retention of 83.5% after 1000 cycles at 2 C, and impressive rate capacities of 73.1 mAh g(-1) at 20 C and 66.8 mAh g(-1) at 60 C. The enhanced rate capability can be attributed to the widened Na-ion channels and high Na-ion diffusivity. Additionally, the low volume expansion during Na-ion extraction contributes to the structural integrity over cycling. This work paves the way for the development of greener, high-power, and long-life sodium-ion batteries.

Rockey, Xiaolong Qi

Summary: This study aimed to determine the optimal timing for endoscopy in patients with cirrhotic acute variceal bleeding (AVB). The results suggest that performing endoscopy within 6-12 or within 24 hours of presentation has similar treatment failure outcomes for patients with cirrhotic AVB.

Carvedilol Versus Other Nonselective Beta Blockers for Variceal Bleeding Prophylaxis and Death: A Network Meta-analysis

Ka-Shing Cheung, Chiu-Hang Mok, Lok-Ka Lam, Xian-Hua Mao, Lung-Yi Mak, Wai-Kay Seto, Man-Fung Yuen

Summary: This study conducted a network meta-analysis to compare the effectiveness of non-selective beta blockers (NSBBs) in the prophylaxis of gastroesophageal variceal bleeding (GVB) and mortality benefit. The results showed that compared to placebo, nadolol ranked first in reducing variceal bleeding, followed by carvedilol and propranolol. Carvedilol was more effective in achieving HVPG decremental response and had the highest safety.
