Summary: The Paris Agreement, SDGs, Sendai Framework, and New Urban Agenda all aim for global sustainable development, but are often implemented separately by sector, leading to inefficiencies. Our research challenges traditional analysis, highlighting the barriers of institutional arrangements and work culture to achieving policy coherence. Increased coherence benefits society more than institutions, but requires structural change to overcome challenges.

Summary: In this study, detailed qualitative content analyses were conducted on climate action plans (CAPs) from 278 cities worldwide. The adoption or publication of urban CAPs from 2015 to 2022 varied across city types and world regions. The analysis revealed an increase in the number of CAPs during the global COVID-19 lockdown period and a transition from primarily mitigation-focused CAPs to both mitigation and adaptation CAPs. However, there was a lack of alignment with best practices, particularly in terms of inclusiveness, transparency, verification, evidence-based planning, comprehensiveness, integration, and consideration of synergies, trade-offs, or conflicts.

Summary: Despite neglecting post-TB morbidity in Global Burden of Disease estimates, there is growing evidence of the long-term impact of tuberculosis (TB) on quality of life. This study uses primary data to estimate years of life lost due to disability (YLDs), years of life lost due to premature mortality (YLL), and DALYs associated with post-TB cardiorespiratory morbidity in a low-income country. The results suggest that post-TB disability burden is greatly underestimated, which may lead to undervaluation of interventions and prevention strategies.

The findings suggest that housing conditions can reduce the gap in health outcomes between the rich and poor, but homeownership exacerbates this gap. Summary: The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the challenges faced by the global economy, and the delays in the negotiations for the post-2020 global biodiversity agenda of the Convention on Biological Diversity have highlighted the urgency of rebuilding for biodiversity, sustainability, and well-being. Drawing on the findings of the IPBES, this policy perspective discusses actions in four priority areas to inform the post-2020 agenda, including increasing funding for conservation, redirecting incentives for sustainability, creating an enabling regulatory environment, and reforming metrics for assessing progress. Governments, along with businesses and civil society, play essential roles in guiding economic systems and must work together to implement actions that shift focus towards human and ecological well-being.
