Summary: Four dead Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis specimens from Southern Italy coasts were examined for the presence of Contracaecum sp. A total of 181 Contracaecum specimens, including larvae and adults, were found in the examined specimens. Contracaecum rudolphii A and B were detected, with a co-infestation of both in one of the specimens from Leporano Bay. This study provides the first report of Contracaecum sp. presence in P. carbo sinensis from Southern Italy.

Summary: The study investigates the wintering dynamics and strategies of the great cormorant using long-term census, climate, and environmental data. The overwintering population, population density, and distribution of the species in Turkey have notably increased, with correlations to different climatic factors explaining a significant portion of the variation in the total number of overwintering cormorants. Climate variables related to warmer autumn weather and increased winter snow cover had opposing effects on the total number of overwintering cormorants. The study also highlights the use of long-term census data to estimate the resident population size of the species during winter.

Summary: The presence of Contracaecum rudolphii sp. A in the European Shag from the Spanish Mediterranean coast was reported for the first time. Genetic analysis revealed significant genetic differentiation between the parasite populations from the Spanish Mediterranean coast and the Sardinian waters, suggesting adaptation of C. rudolphii sp. A in brackish and marine ecosystems. The results also suggest a possible role of cormorant migration routes in the Mediterranean Sea in influencing the genetic structure of the parasite.

Summary: Considering the contribution of traditional communities and their local ecological knowledge (LEK) to policymaking and management plans, this study shared the LEK of Minho River's fishermen about the great cormorant and examined their attitudes towards its conservation. The fishermen demonstrated an understanding of the cormorant's ecological characteristics and expressed an overall moderate attitude towards its conservation. The study also revealed a significant correlation between age and attitudes, as well as fishing frequency and attitudes.
