Summary: This study found that patients with autoimmune disease have a higher risk of early recurrence after catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation. However, the overall risk of recurrence during the follow-up period is similar to that of patients without autoimmune disease. Patients with connective tissue disease are at an increased risk of recurrence. Further research is needed to understand the impact of autoimmune disease on atrial fibrillation treatment.

Summary: Inflammatory atrial cardiomyopathy can lead to atrial fibrillation, characterized by enlarged atria, infiltration of inflammatory cells, and fibrosis. These changes increase susceptibility to arrhythmias by affecting electrical conduction, genetic factors, and autonomic regulation. Therefore, reducing inflammation is important in preventing atrial fibrillation.

Acute exacerbation of COPD may transiently increase AF risk.
