Summary: This study applied self-organizing maps (SOMs) to detect regular patterns in multi-layered data for better prediction of in-stent restenosis (ISR) after percutaneous coronary intervention with stenting. The SOM approach identified known and novel predictors for restenosis risk, but did not significantly improve the prediction of ISR compared to conventional multivariable models.

Summary: In this study, the association of BAT1, NFKBIL, LTA, and CASP1 single nucleotide polymorphisms and their gene-gene interactions with restenosis risk after coronary stenting was evaluated. The results showed that rs501192 A/G and rs580253 A/G polymorphisms, as well as the gene-gene interactions between BAT1-NFKBIL1-LTA-CASP1, were associated with an increased restenosis risk.

Summary: This molecular genetic study examines the genetic predictors of developing cardiovascular complications after a percutaneous coronary intervention. The study identifies several genes, including rs1234313 (TNFSF4), rs3184504 (SH2D3; ATXN2), rs2943634, and rs2713604 (DNAJB8-AS1; GATA2), that are associated with the risk of cardiovascular events. Among these genes, rs2943634 is the only predictor for the development of new cardiovascular events, belonging to the group of lipid metabolism biomarkers.

Summary: The presence of intraplaque high-intensity signal (HIS) on time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography (TOF-MRA) is associated with an increased risk of restenosis after carotid artery stenting (CAS), indicating that intraplaque hemorrhage is a predictor of restenosis after CAS.

Summary: The post-PCI FFR and its gradient across the stent have been found to be associated with clinical outcomes. This study reveals that low post-PCI FFR is linked to a higher rate of target vessel failure, while post-PCI FFR and its gradient across the stent are independent predictors of neointimal proliferation in LAD PCI.

Summary: The study found that factors such as smaller stent diameter, longer stent length, diabetes, previous revascularization, restenosis, bifurcation and chronically occluded lesions are risk factors for stent treatment failure. By calculating a predictive score, the risk estimate for individual lesions and patients can be improved.

Summary: There is a significant incidence of intracranial bleeding after coronary artery bypass graft surgery, particularly in the early postoperative period. Age ≥ 75 years, hypertension, pre-existing dementia, history of ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack, and end-stage renal disease were identified as predictors of intracranial bleeding after coronary artery bypass graft surgery.

Summary: This study examined the association between perivascular fat density (PFD) assessed by preoperative computed tomographic angiography (CTA) and early in-stent restenosis (ISR) after carotid artery stenting (CAS). A total of 248 patients who underwent initial CAS were included and categorized into ISR and non-ISR groups based on the presence of ISR during the 2-year follow-up. The results showed that ISR group had higher PFD on the operated side than the non-ISR group, suggesting PFD as a potential marker for predicting ISR after CAS.

Summary: Incidence of heart failure (HF) hospitalizations is significant among patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Several factors including age, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, previous myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, pulmonary disease, GRACE risk score >=141, peripheral artery disease, and cardiogenic shock are independently associated with HF hospitalizations.

Summary: In-stent stenosis (ISS) is a common complication after pipeline embolization device (PED) implantation for intracranial aneurysms (IAs). Most cases of ISS are mild, with only a small number of patients experiencing severe stenosis. Younger age and longer procedure duration are predictors of a higher likelihood of ISS severity.

Summary: In patients with ACS treated with PCI, mortality is the most accurately predicted outcome. The inclusion of bleeding and MI in the risk prediction models for mortality did not improve the ability to predict mortality, suggesting that these outcomes do not provide incremental prognostic information on top of baseline demographical and clinical data.

Summary: For patients with femoropopliteal in-stent restenosis, diabetes has no impact on the risk of recurrent restenosis but increases the risk of mortality at 12-month follow-up. Drug-coated balloon angioplasty is more effective than plain balloon angioplasty in reducing the risk of target lesion revascularization and recurrent restenosis without compromising safety, regardless of diabetes.

Summary: In October 2021, the ESC and EACTS established a task force to review the 2018 guidelines on myocardial revascularization for patients with LM disease. The task force suggested updated recommendations for revascularization modality, stating that both CABG and PCI are clinically reasonable options for stable patients with LM disease. The task force also acknowledged knowledge gaps and emphasized the need for more data.

Summary: In October 2021, the ESC and EACTS established a Task Force to review recommendations on myocardial revascularization in patients with LM disease. The TF assessed new data, including aggregated data from four randomized trials comparing PCI with CABG. The TF concluded that both treatment options are clinically reasonable based on patient preference, expertise, and local operator volumes, but acknowledged gaps in knowledge and the limitations of the available data.
