Poster summary

Kikuchi disease, (Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis) was first described by Dr Masahiro Kikuchi in 1972 and independently by Y. Fujimoto in Japan. It is very rare , self-limiting illness mainly seen in Japan. The patient usually presents with fever ,enlargement of the lymph nodes skin rashes, and headache Microbial/viral or autoimmune causes are suggested etiological factors. It is diagnosed by lymph node excision biopsy No specific cure is known. Treatment is largely supportive. Corticosteroids are useful in severe extranodal or generalized disease. Case report A 11 year child was admitted with fever for 1 day and swelling left submandibular region for last one month. O/E there was a large tender lymph node in left submandibular region about 5x2 cm, size . USG neck revealed large necrotic lymph node in left submandibular region likely tubercular. Lymph node biopsy was suggestive of Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, likely Kikuchi disease.
