It is indeed unpleasant, but generally, feedback is given once every two to three months, and it takes over a year to receive it. It is better than some journals where submissions can wait for half a year without any response. Most reviewers are very meticulous and help improve the quality of the paper. However, there have also been cases where reviewers were very perfunctory and biased. After arguing, the editor accepted to resubmit the paper.
