The editor-in-chief is performing an initial assessment, which will take approximately 3-4 days. After that, the EO (Editor's Office) will be under review, and it has already been a week. Can anyone provide a reference time? Once the manuscript is submitted, continuous checks will begin.

eo: editorial office, under review. This status has been stuck for a week now. I wanted to ask everyone how long it will take for a change? Should I remind the editor?

May I ask if your status has changed to under review? My status has been stuck for a week. I check every day and I'm getting very anxious.

This publication is very peculiar, with mediocre article quality but a high impact factor (if). The main reason is that the published articles are all very popular and accessible. They have great citation potential, but their scientific value is low.

In recent years, the impact factor of plant journals has skyrocketed, thanks to the contributions of Chinese researchers. Plant-related articles are easy to understand and replicate, making them highly cited by Chinese researchers. On the other hand, many articles published in prestigious journals involve complex concepts. Although they have high scientific value, most Chinese readers cannot understand them and therefore cannot cite them, resulting in a low impact factor. If is really a mysterious thing.

May I ask how long the status of "awaiting decision from editor-in-chief" usually lasts? Mine was just updated to this status on July 11th.

弈承 2023-06-09

May I ask, how long does it take for the manuscript to be reviewed after it is submitted for the first time and reaches the status of "eo: editorial office, under review"?

弈承 2023-05-30

May I ask, how many days does it usually take for the status "under review" in the eo: editorial office?

兜兜里有糖~ 2023-03-18

I would like to ask if anyone has experienced awaiting decision from the editor-in-chief after completing revisions and returning the manuscript. How long does this process usually take?

兜兜里有糖~ 2023-03-18

I would like to ask if you have experienced the awaiting decision from the editor-in-chief after making the modifications before re-submitting? How long does this process usually take?

iiiscience 2023-02-25

Waiting for the editor-in-chief's decision on whether to submit it for review, the results generally come out within a week, usually on Saturday or Sunday morning when you wake up. If it goes for review, it will be marked as "under review," and the results will be available in approximately a month, provided that the reviewers are found. Otherwise, it may take a little longer.

After submitting PBJ, the status changed to "Awaiting decision from Editor-in-Chief" after 3 days under review. It has been 4 days in this status, and I don't know what it means. I hope fellow researchers can inform me.

pbj will not be better than Plant J. Read the article carefully before making a statement. Pbj's popularity is due to the fact that they mostly publish reports on disease resistance, stress tolerance, and gene editing. Since more people read and reference their work, their impact factor is higher. That's all. If we purely consider scientific significance, pbj has a low value.

Most of the articles in this magazine are written by Chinese people. Our laboratory has previously verified several reports on anti-fungal agents. The conclusions are almost all unreliable.

According to the statistical results of 2020, Chinese researchers accounted for 28.494% of the publications in the Plant Physiology journal, ranking second. However, based on the statistical results of 2021, Chinese researchers accounted for 38.142% of the publications in the Plant Journal, ranking first. Additionally, in 2021, Chinese researchers accounted for 29.683% of the publications in the New Phytologist journal, ranking second. In terms of the proportion of Chinese publications in the Plant Biotechnology Journal in 2022, it accounted for 63.27% of the total number of articles (compared to 57.95% in 2019), ranking first.

It is commonly recognized that the 30% mark is the threshold for low-quality journals, regardless of how classic your previous work was!

林夕 2022-12-23

The skyrocketing impact factor is also driven by Chinese people, as Chinese articles make up a large portion! The quality of the articles is worrisome, definitely a low-quality journal.

siwei huang 2022-12-22

Currently, Chinese contributors make up 63.27% of PBJ Magazine, which can be considered very friendly! Do you know why it's in Zone 1!

Before I went abroad, PBJ was considered a third-rate magazine, and it was generally seen as a mediocre magazine overseas. I planned to publish my first article in PBJ for my Ph.D., but my American boss said that publishing in this magazine would not benefit my reputation and insisted on submitting it to PLOS Genetics (which has a good reputation abroad). However, PLOS Genetics did not even send it for review and it was eventually accepted by Plant J. Several classmates in China who are pursuing their Ph.D. have published several articles in PBJ by watering down their gene editing research. When they apply for jobs in China with Plant J publications, they are looked down upon. It's really frustrating knowing that it's not as good as publishing a few articles in PBJ. The standards for recognizing magazines in China and abroad are too far apart. Students who want to go abroad for prestige should think carefully.

From what I can see, only Chinese people think that MP is better than PC... PBJ is harder to invest in than PP? You're kidding, right?

kulta 2022-10-14

The submission took two and a half months to enter the review process. During this time, I sent two inquiry emails to the journal regarding the progress of the review. The journal's response emails were very professional.

kobexu34 2022-09-18

Many people say that PBJ is a low-tier journal compared to other well-regarded journals in the field. Objectively speaking, PBJ definitely cannot be compared to PC. However, currently, it is more difficult to get an article published in PBJ compared to PP, PJ, and PCE. Just a few years ago, MP may have been inferior to PC and possibly even to PP, PCE, and PLOS Genetics. But with a stable increase in impact factor, its status has improved significantly. Therefore, if PBJ can ensure the quality of papers and maintain a stable increase in impact factor, it should gain more recognition in a few years.

Magazines with high impact factors and a majority of Chinese articles are often seen as low-quality publications. This magazine falls into both categories. As for the rest, you can figure it out.

yy12 2022-08-07

It should be soon. The submission process is always somewhat tedious.

顺其自然毛毛龙 2022-08-06

I submitted it on July 31st, and until now, the Editor-in-Chief is still performing initial assessment. I don't know how long I have to wait.

Trash magazine, I submitted it more than 50 days ago and haven't received any updates. I sent an email to inquire, but they directly rejected it after a few days without providing any feedback. Extremely irresponsible.

11.1 Reviews received - awaiting Associate Editor recommendation

This means that the reviews have been received and are currently awaiting the recommendation of the Associate Editor.

9.30 Submission, realized forgot to upload the Table (PBJ submission system does not have a Table option, need to paste it at the end of the Manuscript), wrote a letter to the editorial department, rejected by the author center on the same day. The efficiency is very high, remember to send it when the British people are working.
10.1 Re-submission
10.3 Editor-in-chief preliminary review
10.5 Under review
Currently waiting for the results, heard that PBJ has a low chance of being sent for review, hoping for a good result!

Overall, it took one year in total, with a total of four reviewers being changed.
In the first submission, it was directly rejected after review, but encouraged to resubmit. The experimental suggestions from two reviewers were included and the structure was optimized.
In the second submission, it was stated on the journal's homepage that it would be sent to the same reviewers, but possibly due to the editor's concerns about the additional experimental data from the first submission, it was sent to two different reviewers. One was positive and the other was negative. The editor rejected it again but encouraged resubmission.
The suggestions from the previous reviewer were quite logical and provided many references and experimental methods for reference. Therefore, many revisions were made in the third submission, and ultimately it was accepted with minor revisions.
Overall, the experience of submitting to this journal was quite frustrating, but some of the questions raised by the reviewers were indeed valid. Each time of resubmission, the editor also provided some suggestions for revisions. Perhaps this journal requires a very specific direction for better chances of acceptance.
