Geology is an old-established journal, although it has declined in recent times, it is still acceptable overall. I submitted an article at the end of March 20th, and it was reviewed three days later, which was quite fast. Then came the long process of peer review, until January 21st, when the comments finally came back. The editor-in-chief and one reviewer raised dozens of major and minor issues, giving me 10 months to revise. After completing the revisions in two and a half months, I didn't have to go through another round of review, and the editor-in-chief accepted it directly after a month of review. It was published in October.

From submission to formal publication, it took a year and a half in total. I sent a couple of reminder emails in the meantime, but the editor-in-chief ignored me, probably due to the significant impact of the pandemic. Normally, it should be faster than mine, but I still suggest thinking carefully before submitting, as it may take a long time!

The editor-in-chief pays great attention to language. From the first round of revisions to acceptance, he thoroughly edited the language twice for me, which can be said to be very meticulous.

One last important point! The page charge is $100 per page, which I didn't notice when submitting. My article is not long, but when it was formatted, it ended up being around twenty pages, and I received a bill that I couldn't afford... Fortunately, I was able to apply for partial waiver of the page charge. Overall, it was a rollercoaster ride, with ups and downs, but the outcome was okay.
