For those who have submitted manuscripts, does this mean I have entered the external peer review process?

Generally, how many reviewers are usually assigned for each submission?

Submit in April, make major revisions once, make minor revisions once, and be accepted in January of the second year. The text belongs to interdisciplinary applications. Reviewer 1 provided many constructive comments; reviewer 2 was not professional; the editor did not have a good understanding of the content. Although it is in the second-tier journal, it is currently an important article for me, and I have no regrets about publishing it.

Journal reviews are indeed very strict and point out many fundamental issues. Some of the issues are very critical, which even first-tier journals like "Engineering Geology" did not address. I accept the rejection with a clear conscience and will try to resubmit after making significant revisions. It is now an era where quality is valued.

I would like to ask what does the status of that system mean? It was initially "Under review", then changed to "Under review" again, repeatedly jumping back and forth.

I have submitted for 3 months and still have no result.

The total time required is about 10 months, with an average review period of 2 months. This journal has very few Chinese participants, with 2 reviewers and an Associate Editor, all of whom are renowned experts from Europe and America. They maintain high review standards. Due to being a non-comprehensive journal, its Impact Factor (IF) is relatively low, leading to stricter review processes. Based on the current evaluation standards in China, the review period is long, the IF is not high, and the difficulty is also high, so it is not recommended for submission. However, from an international perspective, it is well recognized by European and American peers and can be considered a suitable journal for documenting one's representative work. In the long run, publishing in this journal will not be regretted.
