Why does it take a week to submit and still wait for the editorial board's response? Are all domestic journals this slow?

xiaoqicac 2023-07-12

With the editor for more than ten days, it is clear that the work in the catalysis field is unexpectedly rejected due to a mismatch in direction. It is obviously the result of not informing in advance. Surprisingly, some people even say that there is no serious problem of cliques. Should we publish the list of those few individuals within the circle at the Institute of Chemistry?

Yes, actually many articles have already surpassed ACS Catalysis in terms of quality. In my recent work, I initially did not include theoretical calculations, but the reviewers requested additional in-depth theoretical calculations and in-situ characterization, which were successfully incorporated. The quality of the article is really excellent. I estimate that the Chinese Journal of Catalysis will soon take up the responsibility of leading domestic journals. There are not many domestic journals that strive for quality, but besides innovation, both depth and workload must meet the requirements, and the image quality is also very good!! I love Chinese journals, come on Chinese journals!

You scared me so much that I dare not vote anymore.

Recently, I submitted a manuscript, which took about two months in total. After revisions, it was accepted, and I also reviewed two manuscripts. Overall, I feel that the journal has a very high target positioning, and the reviewers' opinions are very professional and strict. Each comment hits the key points or addresses the difficult problems in the field. Therefore, I estimate that the work on cooking methods will not be accepted. If we meet the reviewers' requirements in terms of manuscript quality, I feel that the level of the article should not be lower than that of similar articles in Angewandte Chemie. However, the journal currently has its weaknesses. Firstly, its internationalization level is not high enough, and I'm not sure about its international recognition. But our impression is that its quality is definitely not worse than that of ACB or JC. ACS Catalysis has published many good works from 2017 to 2020, but the quality of their papers in recent years varies. Clearly, papers with material-style writing can also be published, and I don't know if CJC can surpass it completely in the future. Secondly, the quality of some special issue manuscripts is average (it may also be because I read them too quickly and couldn't grasp the highlights in the articles). We publish our most outstanding works in CJC because it is our own national journal. If we don't support it, how can it develop? Western journals have a certain bias against domestic journals (even though our work is not inferior to the published ones, why don't they even send it for review? The work of foreigners is not exceptional, so why can they publish?). Finally, I hope that the Chinese Journal of Catalysis will continue to improve. Being selected as a key journal in China is a good start.

I strongly agree with the opinions from the previous commenter. The fact that many Zone 1 magazines entered Zone 2 yesterday shows the strength of the Chinese Journal of Catalysis. We should support national journals and domestic catalysis periodicals more, as those involved in catalysis have more authority to speak. Catalysis determines the future, and the Chinese Journal of Catalysis will definitely have a significant impact on the future of catalysis in China. Keep up the good work, Chinese Journal of Catalysis, and bring glory to domestic catalysis magazines.

I am very honored to have one article accepted. The development of the Chinese Journal of Catalysis is relatively fast among domestic journals, but energy and environmental catalysis are indeed hot topics. I have prepared my research based on in-depth mechanistic study, and the submission process went smoothly. It indicates that the journal values in-depth research on catalytic molecular mechanisms. The top domestic catalysis journals are estimated to be unbeatable. Looking at it, it has been listed in the top tier of the Chinese Academy of Sciences for several consecutive years, with an impact factor of 14.1, which is truly remarkable. When it is announced next year, it will definitely be above 15. It is estimated that it will surpass 20 in less than 2 years. No wonder many journals want to establish catalysis-related sub-journals. I suggest everyone seize the opportunity to publish an article. Additionally, this journal is based at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, which is the strongest research institution in catalysis in our country. It is reasonable for this journal to become a leading international journal in the field of catalysis!

I feel like there aren't many influential articles in this field. The depth and thoroughness of an article is what really matters. The fact that ACS Catalysis publishes such a large number of articles, over 1400 per year, doesn't necessarily indicate any significant issues.

催而化之 2022-12-17

Circle culture should not exist. It is possible that the quality and depth of the articles are still lacking. It is recommended to perform in-situ mechanism characterization and theoretical calculations to achieve a more thorough mechanism analysis. Honestly, the Journal of Catalysis is no longer the same as before, as the quality of the articles has surpassed ACS Catalysis. Don't be discouraged, brother. Keep up the good work!

The journal community culture is severe. I submitted an article to both Chemical Science and ACS Catalysis for review. The editor of ACS Catalysis requested major revisions, and after making the changes, two reviewers agreed to accept it, but one still disagreed and provided some comments. As a result, the editor rejected the submission. Later, I submitted it to the Journal of Catalysis, but it was not reviewed. It seems that without connections or being affiliated with a prestigious institution, it is not possible to submit to this journal. It's a waste of time. The mechanism part of my article was verified using various methods, including theoretical calculations, nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, infrared spectroscopy, etc. The reactions performed in the article were also novel chemical catalytic processes.

On November 11th, the feedback on the manuscript was received. All three reviewers suggested minor revisions and their recommendations were accepted. It went quite smoothly, and the review process was incredibly fast.

The outcome is unknown, hoping for a good result. Originally, I wanted to submit to ACS Catalysis, but considering my supervisor's opinion, I ended up submitting to CJC. It seems like the impact factor of CJC has increased and the quality has also improved significantly, so the number of publications should also increase.
Anyway, the review process is very fast.

我爱国刊 2022-11-05

Indeed, it feels like the national catalysis journal is experiencing a strong rise, seemingly with an immediate impact factor of 12.41. This factor is essentially on par with last year's impact factor, and it is certain to climb another level next year. Not only national journals, but even foreign publications find it difficult to achieve such an impact factor. It is recommended to choose other journals unless the article quality is below 15 points, lacking in-depth mechanism research, or lacks original innovation in catalysis. It seems that this magazine is poised to become a new flagship in the field of catalysis in China, and it is estimated that its influence will surpass ACS Catalysis in a few years.

冷面男 2022-07-04

I submitted once last year. I submitted the manuscript a little after 5 pm and it was rejected at 8 am the next morning. Did the editorial department work overtime? I suspect not. The reason behind it all, hahaha.

Is the Chinese Journal of Catalysis free of charge?

催而化之 2022-04-17

Currently, the Chinese Journal of Catalysis has developed into an academic journal that can represent the level of development of catalytic science in China and has significant international influence. The impact factor in June this year is close to 13, firmly ranking among the top 5 catalysis journals. Recently, it has become evident that there are increasing numbers of outstanding articles from experts in the field of catalysis in China. Keep up the good work! Strive towards higher goals!

778899catalysis 2022-04-16

In addition to the opinion of the student above, I think there is one more thing. The speed of the magazine's online publication has noticeably increased recently. Furthermore, the magazine clearly requires high-quality images in the articles, probably to match the image quality of top international journals. Recently, my revised image quality has been accepted. I suggest that everyone, in addition to deeply exploring catalytic mechanisms and completing structural performance characterization, should not overlook the quality of the images when submitting contributions. I am counting on this article for graduation, haha.

创新之祖 2022-04-16

The quality of articles in the Journal of Catalysis seems to be soaring, especially in the field of catalytic mechanisms where the requirements are becoming increasingly demanding. Therefore, if an article does not reach a score of 15 or lacks strong mechanism research, theoretical calculations, or in situ characterization, it is advisable not to submit it. It appears that the journal's positioning is definitely undergoing significant changes, and it may have already aimed for a score above 20.

催而化之 2022-01-21

Although my article was rejected, I feel that the rejection was worthwhile, as the feedback was professional and the editorial team was strong, which helped me improve a lot. If we talk about the number of publications, why don't you criticize Nature, which only has a few dozen articles? Nature Catalysis, Nature Chemistry, and Nature Energy also have a small number of publications, so why don't you criticize them as well? The size of the publication volume only determines the total citation count, while the impact factor is an average per article concept. Criticizing small publication volumes in domestic journals is a typical "Ah Q" mentality. We need to take practical actions to support the development of domestic journals towards glory.

778899catalysis 2022-01-18

Wow, partitioning is originally a tool to combat foreign journals. Isn't JC a garbage journal? Have you read any articles from JC in the past two years? When looking at issues, we should keep up with the times. The quality of the Journal of Catalysis has indeed made great strides in recent years.

西部牛仔 2022-01-18

This teacher is absolutely right. They have a thorough understanding of domestic journals and national policies. Building our own first-class academic journals and platforms is definitely a boon for the catalysis field in our country. It's surprising to see so many critics, I don't know why. Rejection definitely has its reasons. One of my colleagues submitted a paper at the same time as me. Initially, it was not sent for review, but the article did have novelty. Later, they conducted additional experiments on the reaction mechanism and supplemented a lot of data before resubmitting it, and it was accepted after the review. We really shouldn't always distinguish between domestic and foreign journals. Ultimately, it's the quality of the articles that matters. Recently, the articles in the Journal of Catalysis are no worse than those in ACS Catalysis and Applied Catalysis B. When I submit to the Journal of Catalysis, I always submit my best articles. I truly want to support our own magazine!

西南雄鹰 2022-01-18

The review efficiency is high, the opinions are professional, there are 5 reviewers, each of them hits the key points. Luckily, I have explored the mechanism of the catalyst deeply enough, and the innovation in catalyst is satisfactory. Otherwise, it would be quite challenging. Hope that the journal of catalysis will become better and better. Our country is already a major player in catalysis, and strengthening the journal of catalysis can not only showcase our confidence in the catalysis field but also help us become a leading catalysis nation. It is estimated that the quantity and quality of articles published in the next issue of the journal of catalysis will be on par with top international journals. Looking forward to the journal of catalysis truly becoming a pride and expectation in our catalysis field.

西南雄鹰 2022-01-18

Personally, I feel that the National Excellent Journal Action Plan is very timely and powerful, definitely not self-deception. As long as Chinese people are willing to publish good articles in domestic journals, the influence and reputation of magazines will come. Historical accumulation is a strategy, and the National Excellent Journal Action Plan is also a strategy. If we follow the strategy of historical accumulation, wouldn't all these Chinese magazines have to wait until 100 years later to catch up with American magazines? Ultimately, it is about cultural self-confidence. In fact, many domestic magazines have a long history. The Journal of Catalysis was founded in 1980 and has more than 40 years of history. Do you believe that there is no accumulation at all?

chemeng 2022-01-15

Personal feeling is that the country's emphasis on the development orientation of its own journals is correct, and the original intention is also good. However, it feels a bit rushed. The government can provide appropriate guidance, but cannot control it. After all, the quality of journals is ultimately a reflection of soft power, which is related to the accumulation of the journal's development history, the number of articles published, and international reputation, among many other factors. It is unrealistic to expect to turn a journal into a top-tier publication in just three to five years. It is nothing more than self-deception! As long as we have a good top-level design and make progress step by step over three to five years, we can believe that we will catch up with journals such as JACS or ANGEW in a few decades (not referring to impact factor).

绿色催化 2022-01-15

Sorry, I made a mistake. Academician Li Can, the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Catalysis, is the chairman of the International Catalysis Conference.

绿色催化 2022-01-15

The development speed of the Chinese Journal of Catalysis is truly evident. I remember when I submitted my article in 2015, the impact factor was only 1.96. Now, the instant factor is already 11.6, and it is estimated to be between 12-13 next year. It is definitely a promising journal. Personally, I think it's a good idea to submit your best work before the impact factor is released in June. It seems that the journal's publication volume has significantly increased. Moreover, the online speed of article publication is also very fast, and it can be published within half a month after acceptance (online website: https://www.cjcatal.com//CN/0253-9837/home.shtml). Many friends in the catalysis community are willing to publish their good work in the Chinese Journal of Catalysis. The editor-in-chief, Academician Li Can, is an internationally renowned catalyst researcher, and the associate editor-in-chief, Academician Zhang Tao, is the vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Just think about it, can the future positioning be any lower?

绿色催化 2022-01-15

No, my article was online after half a month of acceptance. It was just a bit slower in being assigned to a specific issue. But once it's online, it can be referenced. It has a DOI. Please see the online address here: https://www.cjcatal.com//CN/0253-9837/home.shtml

绿色催化 2022-01-15

JC becoming Zone 2 is his own fault, as he couldn't keep up with the times. You can ask around and see how many professors are willing to submit to JC now. I used to be willing to submit to JC because their research requirements were relatively in-depth, but now the Journal of Catalysis also emphasizes mechanistic research and catalyst innovation. The key is that the Journal of Catalysis has seized the crucial dividend of domestic journal development and has developed quite well. With this development speed, it is estimated that in five years, the Journal of Catalysis will become one of the top three journals in the field of catalysis.
