Submitted in August 2021, the first review was returned at the end of November with one major revision and one minor revision for resubmission.
In April 2022, it was resubmitted and assigned a different reviewer. At the end of July, the second review resulted in rejection.
After spending two weeks arguing, it was revised extensively and returned in September. The third review had minor revisions and was completed by the end of October. Finally, it was accepted at the end of November.

Objectively speaking, JGR and JPO are at least two levels higher than JGR and JPO. The suggestions I received for the data assimilation and mesoscale vortex articles I posted on JGR were merely superficial, and the revisions were easily accepted. In our group, we try to avoid submitting to JGR if possible. It is better for researchers to publish in JPO, CD, JC, and similar journals.

First submission, took one month for review; for this submission, it has been one month as well, still contacting potential reviewer.

An article on ocean-air interaction was done quite easily. Originally, I planned to submit it to the English version of the Journal of Oceanography, but my advisor suggested trying JGR Oceans. After nearly three months, I received the first round of comments, with minor revisions requested by two reviewers. It took me a few days to make the modifications, and I resubmitted it on the third day. No wonder their impact factor is not increasing; it seems they have accepted too many articles like mine...

Posted in August 2021, received reviewer comments in December, made two major revisions and one minor revision. Revised in January 2022, received new reviewer comments in February, made three minor revisions. Revised by the end of March, accepted in mid-April! The review process is really slow. The first round of review took four months, and to make matters worse, I am in the field of marine geochemistry, but they assigned a reviewer from the field of physical oceanography. I was mentally drained answering his questions.

Objectively speaking, before 2010, the gap between JGR-OCEANS and the top physical oceanography journal JPO was not as large as it is now... However, it is undeniable that JGR-OCEANS has a wider audience and a more friendly submission threshold. It has a fast review speed and is not as difficult, which results in a good reader base and a higher citation rate, directly leading to its impact factor even surpassing JPO. Overall, it can be considered a journal with relatively high cost-effectiveness.

Since being kicked out of NI a long time ago, I have really fallen from grace. I don't understand why JGR can still be ranked higher than NI. There is indeed a significant gap between them and the former.
