Post to retrieve the entire record for everyone's reference. The journal is still good, with an increased impact factor this year. The overall speed is not slow. I wish the journal to continue improving and wish everyone's articles success.

Does anyone have already submitted or preparing to submit to Open Geosciences?

Wei-tec 2023-04-15

Hello classmate, I would like to ask you something. I submitted a paper to the journal OG, and it took one month for the first review. There were four reviewers who provided 80 comments. It took about a month to make revisions and submit it back. After another month, the editor and editorial department sent an email saying they just received the final comments from the reviewers. They mentioned minor revisions and asked me to submit the revised manuscript within ten days. However, I only saw comments from reviewer #3 for the revisions this time. I didn't see any comments from the other three reviewers in the email or the submission system. What could be the reason for this? I'm looking forward to your reply.

Hello, may I ask you a question? In the field of geosciences, I submitted to Open Geosciences. It took one month for the first round of review with four reviewers and 80 comments. It took about a month to make revisions and resubmit. After another month, the editor and the editorial office sent an email saying they just received the final comments from the reviewers, requesting minor revisions and asking me to return the revised manuscript within ten days. However, I only saw the revision comments from reviewer #3 this time, and I didn't see the comments from the other three reviewers. They were not in the email or the submission system. What is going on? I look forward to your reply. ?

Hello, I would like to ask if you received the emails from the editor and editorial department regarding our second revision, minor revisions. However, there were only comments from reviewer#3. I can't find any comments from the other three reviewers during the first revision, neither in the email nor in the submission system.

Finally, it was accepted. It took almost a whole year from beginning to end. The main issue was the slow review process. The journal seemed quite reputable, but just too slow, with a relatively low annual publication volume. It was fine as there were no time constraints.

I invested in it for 20 years. I remember it wasn't very difficult, and after submitting it, I received it back for revisions. It seems like the whole process took about half a year.

May I ask how long is the deadline for paying the page fee for this journal? I have not received any related emails. Thank you, everyone!

Hakertop 2022-09-20

Reply "Trouble-making machine"! How long does it take if there is no rejection or urgency, otherwise it really cannot be easily submitted.

Posted on December 31st, Year 21.
Received external review comments in early February of Year 22, which required a major revision and a minor revision. It took one month to make the revisions.
Received major revision comments from the reviewer in mid-April. Continued with the major revision while the other reviewer had no objections. It took three weeks to make the revisions.
Waited for one month, but the first reviewer did not provide any further updates. Found a third and fourth reviewer to review the manuscript. It took one month for the reviews to come back in early July. One minor revision and one suggestion for acceptance were given (taking into consideration the previous two rounds of revisions, both the third and fourth reviewers provided positive feedback).
Took two days to make the revisions and on July 21st, the manuscript entered the decision process.
Waited for two months and sent a reminder during this period. Received an acceptance email on September 16th.
...
Overall, the process took nine months. The comments given by the reviewers were fair, but the cost-effectiveness was not high. The journal is an annual publication with over 100 accepted articles. If you are in a hurry to graduate, I do not recommend submitting the manuscript.

I applied on April 18th, and until now, I am still invited to edit and have not received any news. I have sent several emails to the official email address, but they all seem to have been ignored and I have not received any response.

May I ask fellow students who have submitted their papers, is it true that after submitting to Open Geoscience, the status goes directly to "under review" without the step of "with editor"? After submitting, I am unable to see any information, only the corresponding author can view it.

Mapviewer 2022-06-27

I do not recommend submitting to this journal. It is too slow, they do not reply to emails, and it takes two months to make a decision. This delays others from submitting to other journals, right?

Rearrange the timeline:
Submitted on August 3, 2021.
Received revision notice on January 17, 2022.
Uploaded revised manuscript on January 29, 2022.
Received second review comments on April 14, 2022: a conditional acceptance with "moderate revision".
Uploaded revised manuscript for second review on April 18, 2022.
Accepted on May 10, 2022, and paid 1230 Euros immediately.
Completed acceptance on May 12, 2022.
Currently waiting for the proof copy online...
Summary: The process is relatively slow.

What was the result of your article in the end? Is there any news?

2022-05-12

You are already very fast.
May I ask which journal your article, submitted in January and published in March, was submitted to?

Mapviewer 2022-05-11

2022-02-08: Submission
2022-03-16: Revision, one expert was very serious but mostly pointed out formatting issues; another expert made a comment that made it impossible to respond.
2022-03-29: Revised.
2022-04-14: Second revision.
2022-04-28: Pending Decision, still no news.

If there is a way, I wouldn't recommend submitting to a journal in Zone 4. It's too slow. My other article was submitted on 2022-01-08 and published on 2022-03-31.

Mapviewer 2022-05-11

What was the result afterwards?

CookMai 2022-04-19

Excuse me, may I ask if the second review is also sent to the first reviewer or do we need to find a new reviewer? My paper has been under review since October last year after the first review.

2022-04-18

Returned on April 14, 2022, for the second trial opinion;
Uploaded the revised second trial draft on April 18, 2022.

Instant IF (you can search the meaning and algorithm on Baidu), 0.985 is the IF for the year 2019. I calculated that the instant IF for 2020 is 1.24, which is less than 1.3. The final results for the 2020 IF will be announced by the end of June this year.

By the way, this journal is indexed in both SCI and EI. In terms of the review cycle and review quality, it is still good and provides great help to young researchers in the early stage of scientific research. It helps to improve research confidence, and I personally have a positive outlook on the long-term trend.

lideguo 2021-05-15

How did you come up with this if1.3? It's always 0.985 no matter where you check it.

梦想成为大水牛 2021-04-23

At the beginning of the year, three reviewers provided nearly 50 comments, some of which were repetitive. Two of the reviewers were junior colleagues and their comments were very professional. It is not easy to publish an SCI paper in a niche field, especially after going through a lot of obstacles. This is the first SCI paper from our research group in almost two and a half years. The current impact factor is 1.3, and we hope that the journal will continue to improve.

yunzhongjie 2021-02-21

No one really pays attention to this kind of journal. Its impact factor is too low. It's just about quantity, but it should be much easier than the legendary journal. You can just fill it with water.
