Commented on Blood Pressure Effects of Yoga, Alone or in Combination With Lifestyle Measures: Results of the Lifestyle Modification and Blood Pressure Study (LIMBS)
This is confusing. The abstracts states "Patients were randomized to yoga (Blood Pressure Education Program [BPEP]), or a combined program (COMBO)." but the Methods say that BPRP consisted only of "12 nutrition classes and 12 motivational experiences. BPEP patients were also expected to walk 6 days a week, gradually increasing to 180 minutes of walking per week or 10,000 steps per day."

Commented on Blood Pressure Response to Meditation and Yoga: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Very encouraging to see a meta-analysis that was able to identify 13 studies that met the criteria (although I'm puzzled as to why "psychotherapy" was included in the initial search terms. Although it is exceptionally difficult to research CAM treatments, these efforts get us closer to a body of evidence.

Commented on Importance of intensive blood pressure control in type 2 diabetes: Mechanisms, treatments and current guidelines
"The optimal BP value for patients with diabetes is still uncertain. " This certainly makes it difficult to assess when and which lifestyle and pharmacological interventions should be adopted, despite the thorough review of potential risks/benefits of various treatments.

Commented on Association of Greenness with Blood Pressure among Individuals with Type 2 Diabetes across Rural to Urban Community Types in Pennsylvania, USA
Fascinating! There appear to be quite a variety of non-pharmaceutical conditions that can make slight reductions in blood pressure.

Commented on TIMING OF ACUTE PASSIVE HEATING ON GLUCOSE TOLERANCE AND BLOOD PRESSURE IN PEOPLE WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES: A RANDOMIZED, BALANCED CROSSOVER, CONTROL TRIAL
There is not a huge benefit, but the "costs" (i.e. pain v pleasure as in exercising v taking a warm bath) suggest that this therapy could be another arrow in the diabetes/blood pressure quiver.

Commented on School-based gardening, cooking and nutrition intervention increased vegetable intake but did not reduce BMI: Texas sprouts - a cluster randomized controlled trial
I applaud this informative title. As to the study, I am not surprised by the results--the time span may simply be too short. The large increase in vegetable consumption, if maintained throughout life, could still have positive benefits.

I'm curious as to whether these statements truly predict teaching performance.

Commented on Interviewer speech and the success of survey invitations
The authors' conclusions certainly comport with my on-the-ground experience.

Commented on Comparing In-Person and Online Survey Respondents in the U.S. National Transgender Discrimination Survey: Implications for Transgender Health Research
Due to the pandemic, the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey--typically done in person at respondents' home--has been administered over the phone since May 2010, including a complex process of abstracting utilization and cost info from respondents' insurance statements. Although this long-running, population-based study draws much of it rigour from its longitudinal nature, it seems likely that year-to-year and trend comparisons will not be feasible for data collected during the 3-4 rounds done without home visits.

Commented on PP309 Accuracy Of Automated Wrist Blood Pressure Monitors: Systematic Review
Here's some very practical health information I can use right now. Home use wrist monitors are much less expensive than the upper arm type.

Commented on Impact of Information on Northeastern U.S. Consumer Willingness to Pay for Aronia Berries
The analyses are complex and seem well-founded, but the conclusions do not reflect the fact that fresh aronia berries are pretty unpalatable.

Commented on Epidemiological characteristics, safety and efficacy of medical cannabis in the elderly
So few abstracts seem to say what population was studied (i.e. country or ethnicity). That makes it difficult to judge whether it is worth the effort to go try to find the full text.
