Summary: In Australia, the area of residence has been suggested to be a key risk factor for preterm birth, low birth weight, and cesarean section due to its influence on socioeconomic status and access to health services. However, there is inconsistent evidence on the relationship between maternal residential areas (rural and urban areas) and these pregnancy outcomes. Synthesizing the evidence can help identify underlying inequalities and potential interventions.

Summary: Preterm birth is a major cause of neonatal mortality and health complications, and understanding its genetic underpinnings can improve prediction and enhance biological mechanism understanding. Although recent genome-based studies have identified genetic loci related to PTB, inconsistencies and lack of functional validation across studies remain a challenge.

Summary: This study compared birth injuries between spontaneous vaginal and caesarean section deliveries in preterm and term pregnancies. The results showed that while spontaneous vaginal deliveries had a higher incidence of all types of birth trauma, there was no difference in the risk of major birth trauma between preterm babies delivered vaginally and those delivered by caesarean section.

Summary: The study revealed that individuals born preterm have a higher rate of prescription of psychotropic drugs during adolescence and young adulthood. The risk of mental health impairment is increased in individuals born preterm, and this risk is not limited to the most preterm groups.

Summary: This study used Swiss Federal Statistics data to identify that about 8% of caesarean sections in Switzerland have no medical indication. The study found that higher age, supplemental insurance, higher income, and living in urban areas are associated with non-medically indicated caesarean sections, while a higher density of midwives decreases the likelihood of caesarean sections without medical indication.

Summary: This study reveals that the rate of C-sections is higher among expectant mothers covered by private insurance compared to those covered by public insurance. Although the majority of the difference in C-section rates remains unexplained (approximately 66.3%), advancing maternal age and socioeconomic status of the expectant mother contribute to the remaining 33.7% difference.

Summary: This study aimed to measure the incidence of iron deficiency anaemia in patients undergoing elective caesarean section at the local institution and determine any associated predictors and adverse outcomes. Results showed that 16.2% of women undergoing caesarean section had iron deficiency anaemia, with this group more likely to be Maori or Pacific Island ethnicity, have a higher booking body mass index, and have a greater parity. Pre-operative anaemia was associated with a higher likelihood of post-operative blood transfusion. There is potential for optimization of iron deficiency anaemia in the local population undergoing elective caesarean section.

Summary: Preterm birth is defined as delivery before 37 weeks of gestation, with 15 million infants born prematurely globally each year, increasing the risk of mortality and health challenges. While the only FDA approved therapy for preventing preterm birth in the U.S. has faced recent setbacks, interdisciplinary efforts are underway to develop next generation therapies to prevent preterm birth and save infant lives. This research aims to better identify women at risk for preterm birth, prevent premature labor, and ultimately improve outcomes for newborns.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and characterization of preoperative and postoperative anaemia in women undergoing caesarean section. The results showed that over one-third of women were iron deficient at their first hospital appointment. 62% of women with moderate anaemia also had iron deficiency. At least four in ten women were anaemic on hospital discharge. Less than half of the anaemic women received treatment. Our data suggests that intensive treatment of iron deficiency in early pregnancy can prevent 30% of postoperative anaemia. Large prospective studies are needed to determine outcomes after caesarean section in women stratified by preoperative Hb and ferritin levels. The prevalence of anaemia in our data suggests it is a moderate public health problem.

Summary: In women who have had a previous term caesarean section (EmCS) and have risk factors for preterm birth, the risk of a recurrent preterm birth is higher than in women without a previous EmCS. Furthermore, both first and second stage EmCS are associated with an increased risk of recurrent preterm birth.

Summary: Left ventricular remodelling that occurs after acute myocardial infarction is associated with an increased risk of heart failure and cardiovascular death. Despite identified risk factors, there is no clinical marker to predict left ventricular remodelling. Plasma coenzyme Q10 concentration, which is negatively correlated with left ventricular function after acute myocardial infarction, was not found to predict left ventricular remodelling at six months' follow-up in STEMI patients.

Summary: This study suggests that high cytosolic AREG expression is associated with better prognosis in malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). However, tumor cells fail to correctly process and release AREG, leading to inconsistency between its expression in plasma and tumor cells. Therefore, mesothelioma cell AREG content may serve as a prognostic marker.

Summary: The objective of this study was to assess the influence of the test-to-delivery interval on the performance of ultrasound and MRI in predicting birthweight. The results showed that MRI performed best in predicting birthweight greater than gestational age if delivery occurred within two weeks of the examination, with a slight decrease thereafter, while ultrasound performance decreased drastically over time.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study aimed to evaluate whether induction of labor is associated with a lower risk of cesarean section in patients with isolated polyhydramnios. The study found that planned induction was associated with a lower rate of cesarean delivery compared to expectant management, but the difference was not statistically significant. Additionally, no differences were observed in maternal or fetal secondary outcomes.

Summary: This systematic review examined the comorbidity of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and their impact on metabolism, hormone levels, and reproduction. The findings showed a high prevalence of comorbidity between the two conditions, which may have significant clinical implications for patient management.
