Summary: Chinese bayberry leaves proanthocyanidins (BLPs) have significant effects on hepatic glucose metabolism, promoting glycogen synthesis and reducing gluconeogenesis. These effects may be achieved through the activation of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Additionally, BLPs can also regulate the expression of specific miRNAs, further influencing hepatic glucose metabolism.

Summary: In this study, natural extracts from Chinese bayberry leaves were used as additives in the fermentation of soy sauce to reduce the formation of harmful biogenic amines. The results showed that these extracts effectively decreased the content of various biogenic amines and maintained certain concentrations of characteristic indicators compared to commercial additives. Therefore, natural extracts from Chinese bayberry leaves can be considered a natural additive to significantly improve the quality of traditional brewing soy sauce.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of hot-air drying and freeze drying on the phenolic profiles, antioxidant, and hypoglycemic activities of Chinese bayberry pulp extracts. The results showed that freeze-dried samples had higher phenolic contents and exhibited stronger antioxidant and hypoglycemic activities compared to hot-air dried samples. Freeze-dried 'DK' bayberry showed similar antioxidant activities and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity but higher β-glucosidase inhibition than freeze-dried 'BQ' bayberry. Freeze drying was found to be more suitable for preserving the phenolic components in Chinese bayberry pulp extract.

Summary: This study investigated the inhibition of Chinese bayberry phenolics on AGEs formation, revealing that they can reduce the formation of AGEs and protect proteins from damage. Chinese bayberry fruits, especially the Biqi and Wuzi cultivars, may be a promising dietary strategy to mitigate AGEs load in the human body.

Summary: This study identified molecular markers associated with leaf traits in Chinese bayberry through whole-genome re-sequencing, constructing a genetic map and discovering 18 quantitative trait loci (QTLs) related to leaf and growth characteristics. Two QTL clusters were detected, with two candidate genes related to chlorophyll content being identified in one cluster. This research provides valuable insights for marker-assisted selection breeding and candidate gene analyses in Chinese bayberry.

Summary: This research focuses on overcoming the disadvantages of weak water resistance and high formaldehyde emission of urea-formaldehyde resin (UF) by partially substituting urea with tannin. Plasma pretreatment of wood is introduced to enhance the bonding performance of plywood. The results show that tannin-urea-formaldehyde resin (TUF) has improved water resistance and reduced formaldehyde emission.
