Summary: This study aimed to improve the properties of soy protein isolate (SPI)-based films by blending nano-TiO2 particles with SPI. The addition of nano-TiO2 (3% w/w SPI) significantly enhanced the color and ultraviolet-shielding properties, hydrophobicity, tensile strength, and reduced water vapor permeability of the SPI film. Additionally, nano-TiO2 exhibited concentration- and time-dependent bacteriostatic effects on Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Bacillus cereus (B. cereus).

Summary: Plastic-based food packaging causes a serious environmental problem, driving the need to develop biodegradable films, with starch as a potential substitute for petroleum-based plastic. While starch has many advantages, its low mechanical strength and water resistance can be overcome by using nanocellulose as a reinforcement in biocomposites for food packaging.

Summary: To overcome the limitations of common starch films, a new starch film was developed by blending octenyl succinate cassava starch ester (OSCS) with chitosan and nano ZnO. This film was then supplemented with e-PL to create an antibacterial film. The modified starch antibacterial film exhibited improved mechanical properties, surface hydrophobicity, and UV-blocking effect. The film containing 8% e-PL demonstrated stable and long-lasting antibacterial properties, controlled release, and good cytocompatibility. This active packaging material effectively preserved food.

Summary: This research focused on the production and evaluation of biodegradable starch/Fe3O4/TiO2 bio-nanocomposites. The study investigated the mechanical, visual, moisture-sensitive, magnetic, and physical properties of the film specimens. It was found that the addition of FT content increased the hydrophobicity and tensile strength of the films, while decreasing elongation at break and tensile energy to break. Furthermore, increasing FT content resulted in decreased water vapor permeability and increased photodegradability of the specimens.

Summary: Crosslinking affects the mechanical behavior and tissue metabolism of collagen-based tissues. Aging and diabetes alter the crosslinking type and density, thus changing tissue properties. High-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking and advanced-glycation end-products result in uniform deformation under daily activity, while low-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking does not. High-connectivity model displays more sliding, while AGEs induce instability in structures near the binding sites.

The results showed that the multi-layer nanoemulsions significantly enhanced the cellular uptake and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol compared to free coumarin 6. Furthermore, the use of chitosan and dextran sulfate as wall materials in the multi-layer nanoemulsions led to even higher cellular uptake, in vitro bioaccessibility, and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol.
