Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the acute anti-suicidal ideation effects of single-dose ketamine in different formulations and routes of administration by pooling the results from randomized controlled trials. The findings suggest that intravenous ketamine and intranasal esketamine are associated with robust reductions in suicidal thoughts at 2-h, 4-h, and 24-h post-intervention. Further research on intramuscular, oral, and sublingual ketamine, as well as comparative studies, are needed to evaluate the efficacy of these formulations and routes of administration in reducing suicidal ideation.

Summary: Mood disorders are chronic, recurrent diseases characterized by changes in mood and emotions, with major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder being the most common. Research indicates the involvement of the immune system in the pathogenesis of mood disorders, while lithium is an effective mood stabilizer.

Summary: Research suggests that cortical inhibition aberrations play a central role in severe mental disorders. Through Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation combined with electromyography, researchers examined inhibitory processes in the motor cortex in individuals with different mental disorders compared to healthy subjects. The study found that long-interval intracortical inhibition was significantly increased in mania and schizophrenia, but reduced in OCD, while cortical silent period was decreased in OCD and depression groups compared to healthy individuals.

Summary: This study examines the association between the reoccurrence of illness (ROI), the phenome of depression, and major dysmood disorder (MDMD) features and immune response in major depressive disorder and a major depressive episode (MDD/MDE). The results show that MDMD is characterized by heightened immune responses, which are a consequence of ROI-associated sensitization combined with immunostimulatory triggers.

Summary: This study examines the effects of cannabidiol (CBD) on the immune-inflammatory response and immune-regulatory system in patients with depression and healthy controls. The results suggest that higher concentrations of CBD may worsen inflammatory processes.

Summary: This paper discusses the use of machine learning in depression research and the development of precision psychiatry. Precision psychiatry aims to customize the best medical treatments based on individual's genomics, environmental, and lifestyle data. The paper outlines three steps in the development of precision medicine and highlights the challenges in developing precision psychiatry.

Summary: It has become increasingly clear that the immune system's cells and molecules play important roles in neurodevelopment. Previous research has focused on demonstrating that neuroinflammation in the developing brain can cause neuropathology and behavioral changes associated with neurodevelopmental disorders. Recent studies have shown that immune cells and molecules in the brain can influence neurodevelopment without overt inflammation, highlighting the significance of neuroimmune activities in normal neurodevelopment. This mini-review discusses the shift in literature, from emphasizing inflammatory events as the main culprits of neurodevelopmental disorders, to evaluating the deviations of normal neuroimmune activities as potential pathogenic mechanisms.

Summary: Depression, a prevalent condition with devastating consequences, remains poorly understood due to reliance on categorical diagnosis. An alternative approach focusing on symptoms as unique dimensions of clinical dysfunction, particularly anhedonia, reveals reward dysfunction as a core symptom with implications across various psychiatric conditions. Reward dysfunction in adolescence is associated with worse clinical outcomes, neural abnormalities, inflammatory biomarkers, and early onset of illness.

Summary: This study found that poor-quality parent-child relationships may increase the risk of mood and anxiety disorders in adulthood. Individuals with major depression, panic disorder, or persistent depressive disorder reported lower parental care and higher overprotection. Those with mood or anxiety disorders tended to report higher parental abuse.

Summary: Inflammation affects the basal ganglia motor circuitry in depression, leading to psychomotor retardation. Research suggests that inflammatory signaling and metabolic reprogramming in peripheral blood immune cells are associated with psychomotor slowing in depression, indicating a potential link between systemic inflammation and relevant brain circuits.

Summary: Inflammation is associated with anhedonia in major depression, and molecules of the kynurenine pathway may play a role in mediating this process. Dysregulation of the KP system can lead to changes in brain chemistry, disrupted circuit functioning, and impact inflammatory behaviors like anhedonia.
