Summary: The study found that self-rated health is associated with lower socioeconomic conditions, being women, black self-declared race/ethnicity, being non-married/non-united, low decision authority, low skill discretion, and obesity. These factors should be targeted in interventions to reduce health inequalities in Brazil.

Summary: Scientific teleological explanations use end states as causes to explain physical phenomena, but students may have illegitimate use of teleological explanations. This article proposes two criteria to determine the legitimacy of teleological explanations and introduces seven examples of constraint-based teleology in physics education. The article also discusses potential criticisms of the approach and proposes strategies for using legitimate teleological explanations in the physics classroom.

Summary: This study investigated the trend in physical fitness of Chinese male first-year college students from 2013 to 2019. The results indicated a decline in health-related physical fitness of the students during this period. The findings suggest the need for Chinese universities to support Healthy China 2030 goals and promote physical fitness development among college students through physical education courses.

Summary: This study assesses changes in the prevalence and distribution of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and related risk factors among Brazilian adults from the 2013 and 2019 Brazilian National Health Surveys (PNS). Results show that all NCDs increased over the observed period and most conditions exhibited significant educational inequities in both years. Considering the deteriorating socioeconomic conditions, erosion of social protections, and ongoing crises, there is an urgent need for discussion and action to adopt equity-promoting health policies and programs and reduce socioeconomic and geographic inequalities in NCDs throughout Brazil.

Summary: This study investigated how high school students' attitudes towards advanced physics were influenced by their sense of school belonging, and how gender moderated this relationship. The analysis used data from the Trends in International Math and Science (TIMSS) 2015 Advanced, which included responses from 12th grade students enrolled in advanced physics courses from nine countries. The results indicated that students' sense of school belonging significantly predicted their liking and valuing of advanced physics, with Lebanon having the strongest relationship. Additionally, the relationship between school belonging and liking advanced physics was stronger for males in Norway and Sweden, while the relationship between school belonging and valuing advanced physics was stronger for males in France and Sweden.

Summary: This paper introduces the OSSCAR platform, which provides an open collaborative environment for students and researchers to develop and access educational resources. By combining standard software tools with custom domain-specific ones, OSSCAR aims to minimize the efforts in creating and using new educational material. Examples from courses in physics, chemistry, and materials science are shown to demonstrate the interactivity and style of OSSCAR. The tools presented are easy to use and create a uniform and open environment exploitable by a large community.

Summary: This study found that the combination of yacon flour and yogurt with two strains of probiotics had positive effects on metabolic parameters, inflammatory and insulin signaling proteins in diet-induced obese mice. The combination resulted in decreased body weight, fasting glucose, and triacylglycerol levels, as well as reduced fat accumulation. Additionally, it decreased inflammatory markers and improved insulin signaling. These findings suggest that the use of prebiotics and probiotics in food can counteract obesity-associated inflammation and improve insulin resistance in the short term.

Summary: Dairy consumption in Brazil is influenced by factors such as family income, consumer profile, eating habits, and cultural beliefs. The most consumed cheeses in Brazil are Mucareala, Minas cheese, Requeijao, Prato, and Parmesao. However, the popularity of cheeses on Twitter does not necessarily reflect preference. Through a tournament bracket experiment carried out on Instagram, the preferred cheeses in Brazil were found to be Parmesao, Mucarela, Prato, and Coalho. Future research should focus on developing inferential statistics for tournament bracket experiments.
