Summary: Autophagy is a crucial self-degradative process in cells that plays a key role in cellular renovation, physiology, and homeostasis. It can be triggered by factors such as starvation, pathogens, and stress, and is important in immune response regulation. Dysregulation of autophagy processes, either impaired or overactive, can contribute to the pathogenesis of various diseases, including infections and cancer.

Summary: Propolis, a natural product produced by bees, has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, and antitumoral properties, and has been shown to alleviate airway inflammation in allergic asthma models. The major compound in green propolis, artepillin C (ArtC), can induce differentiation of Treg cells and monocytic MDSC, and reduce pulmonary inflammation and eosinophil influx in an OVA-induced asthma model. The anti-inflammatory effect of ArtC is dependent on monocytic MDSC, suggesting it may be a potential adjuvant therapy for allergic asthma.

Summary: Asthma is a heterogeneous airway disease characterized by inflammation and hyperresponsiveness. Autophagy, a self-degrading process, plays a role in maintaining cellular homeostasis. Dysregulated autophagy is implicated in the pathogenesis of various diseases. In the context of asthma, autophagy is associated with inflammation, airway remodeling, and drug responsiveness. Understanding the role of autophagy in asthma can contribute to the development of biomarkers and targeted therapies. This article focuses on the relationship between autophagy and asthma, and its implications for pathogenesis and treatment.

Summary: In late 2019, a highly infectious and life-threatening virus called COVID-19 was first reported in Wuhan, China, and quickly spread globally. It belongs to the coronavirus family and causes severe respiratory disease similar to SARS. The pandemic has led to increasing morbidity and mortality rates, especially among vulnerable populations. Proper screening and early interventions are necessary to control the transmission and reduce the risk of severe complications. Diagnostic assays include molecular detection of viral genetic material and serological tests for detecting antibodies. Currently, there are no effective prophylactics or therapeutics, but some drugs are showing promising antiviral activity and are being tested in clinical trials. This review provides an insight into the laboratory detection methods for COVID-19 and the clinical stage of recommended drugs/vaccines against the novel SARS-CoV-2 virus.
